Discussion: The Grimoire Challenge

I went back to an old playthrough concept that was interrupted by a computer dying now that work lightened up a little and I had time to do this.

    Race: Altmer

    Cantrips: Sparks, Healing

    M/H/S: 3/2/0

Schools: All, but emphasis on Destruction, Alteration, and Restoration

    Mods: Fudge yeah

    Stone: Lover

Current Spell Choices: Rift Bolt (Apocalypse mod), Mystic Wind (Ditto), Lightning Bolt, Candlelight, Stone Flesh.

This fancy gentleman is an aged hermit who moved to the backwards, wild Nordlands in order to commune with sky and storm, the rush of wild conflict followed by peace and mending. A wizard's Tower in the isolated northlands is basically his barbie dream house, so this playthrough's ultimate goal will be to try and complete Caranthir Tower Reborn.

I'll admit I'm slighty gaming the system in a couple of ways, but given that Wizards are all about gaming the system by being clever, I'm going to assume I'll be forgiven and be called a very smart boy who deserves a pat on the head.

As my magical inventory grows, I'll be making extended use of Ocato's Recital, an Apocalypse Spell, to slap my buffs on me automatically, which will help expand and diversify my spell slots.

I'm using The Lover stone because of its effect with Andromeda, a mod which gives each standing stone new and more interesting aspects than the default daily power, stat boost, or experience gain boost. The Lover Stone brings you back from the brink of death once, and then gives a fifteen minute realtime cooldown (I don't believe I can game it by resting, and if I can then I won't because even I have standards). As a wizard, that means I'll have a chance to flee, regroup, recruit assistance, pick new spells, and approach the challenge with a new strategy. I also thought this the most fitting Standing Stone, since this character is driven more by faith and divine providence than pure academic interest.

Right now I'm about to hopscotch into the 'Hitting The Books' College quest. In order to prepare for it, my wizard Sheare is in the process of trying to clear out a few missions in the outlying area for the battle experience and money for spells. He's contemplating whether to look for help within the College or from outside, but regardless he's going to need another pair of hands for the journey, if only to carry the camping supplies and feed the horses.

My Breton is lvl 14 and just hit 50 conjuration, so I'm halfway through saarthaal with frost atronach and bound bow freshly bought and inscribed upon my grimoire. To make room for them I had to drop flames and fury but all the enemies her are undead and flames can barely kill anything on legendary anyways

@Raikage "and every time a School hits level 50 you get an extra slot but only for that school." you know right you have 6 slots now. 1 only for Conjuration ^^ My Character also has Conjuration focus i think its at lvl 43 or something ^^

Sorry guys my mobile is being problematic. Anyhow, level 18 now, have the first rank of magic resistance and found a neclace on magic immunity so with Breton and the Lord stone sitting at about 70%... Which makes mages survivable. However, I nearly got killed twice by the death missiles called ice wolves on the trek from winterhold to windhelm - is there any good way to keep them from aggroing you?

no big deal ^^ you should be able to Fear them.

    Ice Wolf Level 6

Fear: Creatures and people up to level 9 flee from combat for 30 seconds.

If you get the animal perk in Illusion you should even be able to Fear Sabercats ^^

Larissa Frecee met her end at lvl 13 in Morvunskar trying to retrieve Enthirs Staff. 2 Conjurers just spamming flames and walking forward and chasing me arround the room killed me.

@Raikage i just checked and it worked i just Feared a Frost Wolf without Animage so Base Fear will keep them away ^^

Sorry for your loss... I usually avoid morvumskar until I am doing the sanguine quest at a high level - that storm mage in the room with the nexromancer ugh. But thanks for the tip! Fear might just need to go upon my grimoire.
