This looks like a nice challenge, and since I play using permadeath anyway, I decided to give it a whirl!
My Altmer, Arenthil, is specializing in Restoration and Alteration. I use several mods, including Imperious and Apocalypse, so my starting cantrips are Healing and Conjure Avenging Wraith (yes it's conjuration, but I need some extra fire support). Thus far, I have finished Helgen and Bleak Falls (and am now Level 5).
I do have one question, though. If I return to Whiterun and return the Dragonstone, the quest will advance. Can we fight Mirmulnir? It unlocks the Dragonborn aspect, but this challenge stated, "No Dragonborn." I was asking, as I would like to unlock dragons (to encounter, fight, and/or run from). Can we fight Mirmulnir and then simply never shout? That would make High Hrothgar impossible, as the Grey Beards require you to prove yourself by shouting. Or can we exchange a single spell slot with a shout? I just thought I would ask before continuing. Thanks!

I think Feint's suggestion would be a good way around it, where it is a matter of "Do I want this shout or another spell?" or if you felt that giving up just 1 spell was not a fair price then it could be something like - each shout that you choose to take, counts towards two spell slots - in which case it would become a question of power over versatility. Because while a shout will have it's moments it also has a cool down, while spells can be used imediately again if you have the magicka.

How about, for each word of the shout it costs an extra slot? Or if 3 slots is way too much then for an incomplete shout it is 1 slot and for a complete one it is two slots. So you can choose to give up another spell for the extra power.

What about, if you master a school then you can have two spells of that school per slot? The idea being that as you have mastered the school it is easier for you to memorise the spells.
