Discussion: The Grimoire Challenge

I'm enjoying the character enough to want to continue playing him despite failing the challenge, however while in Bruma my game crashed. I decided to reinstall the mod in the hopes that it would fix the problem. Unfortunately while I was doing that Skyrim SE updated breaking the script extender and now I must wait until the team behind it updates it.

I'm totally keeping Kitty too, after he dies. He is so adorable. It's funny how the characters you create in 5 minutes turn out the coolest ones to play.

Ugh, this is frustrating. This is why I never let anything update automatically...

I think in this instance, because of the limitations we've imposed on ourselves we have been forced to create interesting characters even if we did so in a short time. Plus with the risk of permadeath existing we are much more invested in the character's survival and in turn the character.

I didn't realise that it was still set to update automatically, I'd seen the update earlier today and removed it from the queue and just assumed that it would stay that way. However now I have it set up like fallout 4 so it shouldn't update unless I want it to.

Usually I spend a few hours creating a character, the only exception so far has been my first Altmer and Kitty is the second. And I created Kitty in 5 minutes because I didn't want to spend hours creating a character that might die after 5 minutes, and his build is also very simple. It seems like the simple builds turn out to be the best)))

I always check such things 10 times because I hate when something like this happens. Though it really can't happen to me because I play old Skyrim.

Well I rolled up an Altmer with Bound Sword and Sparks as my cantrips, going for a thalmor feel.  RNG blessed me with Bound Sword in the Embershard boss chest!  From Riverwood I set my sight on the College my goal is to become Archmage.  I remembered a short cut to Witerun that avoided the bandits but forgot about the wolf, who ambused me and nearly killed me!  Still I made it to the city and hired Jenassa and cleared the smuggler's camp on the west side of the city and stole their horse which made the trip to Winterhold very uneventful since I was able to out run all the beasties.  Made it to the college and learned Fear from Faralda and crafted a flame atronach book from the forge in the midden.  Then I blew my savings on Turn Lesser Undead which I think will be worth it in Saarthal.

I love that smuggler's camp. Making the bandits' own horse kill them all is always fun. Blew your savings you say? Now I'm wondering how much you had saved)))

Mechanically, I might actually suggest against the use of Bound Sword. I'm aware it's an excellent spell abnd beyond powerful in the early game especially when given Mystic Binding, but the trouble with it is that it levels your Conjuration and One-Handed (assuming you're actually using it with Mystic Binding) and it levels them fast. That means enemies are going to get a lot stronger a lot faster and your other spell schools (Illusion in particular, as well as Restoration's Turn Undead line) might not be able to keep up.

Then again, if characters are dying at level 5, I suppose that changes everything... also if Bound Sword is a fun spell, then it's a fun spell.

I used bound sword once in a draugr dungeon in combination with turn undead to level up cunjuration and resto, but i dont use it anymore since its to risky.Im lvl 13 and getting close to things would mean certain killcam death

@ Thorien:  I don't remember exactly, a few hundred gold i think.  But that plus hiring Jenassa has left my purse very light.

@ Soly:  That's a good point I will have to keep an eye on that.  Right now my Illusion skill is actully my highest, currently thirty thanks to all the Fury casting.  I actually picked those two spells because I feel they age the best at higher levels.  Bound Sword becomes the bane of daedra and undead while sparkels with disintegrate will be useful from removing weakened enemies, at least that's my theory, plus it's fun and makes me feel like a sith lord.

I like the idea of using the bound sword to harvest souls (from weak animals and undead) and sell the full petty soul gems. My goal is to rocket up my bretons conjuration skill so she can buy bound bow and summon a frost atronach, so my cantrips are bound sword and raise zombie. If I was to make a build out of this challenge character I'd call it something like the soul harvester. On a side note I also figured out exactly what method to use to pass the vilkas test with the bound sword and join the companions without him lecturing or murdering me. Just 3 quick swipes at him and, very confused, he tries to give you a real sword.
