Depending on who you ask "Chimer" either means Changed Ones or Northern Ones. Change is a pretty significant part of the Psijic Endeavor as it makes you stronger and smarter along your way to achieving CHIM. CHIM in its original Ehlnofex means royalty, likely where the Ruling King reference comes from, SO if you like Chimer could instead be translated to mean Royal Ones.

Chi Mer. Not Chim Mer. So no Royal Ones.

    It's called contraction.

chi- - (adj.) changed. Chimer [Aldmeris]

CHIM - royalty, starlight, high splendor. AE CHIM CE ALTADOON. [Ehlnofex]
    Source: 36 Lessons of Vivec
Comment: As with all Ehlnofex, the sigil CHIM constantly distorts itself. Those scholars that can perceive its shape regard it as a crowned tower that threatens to break apart at the slightest break in concentration.

You are applying strict meaning to Aldmeri\Ehlnofey words even though we know you can't do that. Also we have two sources to the meaning of Chimer, both completely different. Also none of what you said means it can't be a contraction.

And none of what you said means it can be contraction. Also, another fact is that you are trying to combine two different words from two languages. CHIM is Ehlnofex, Mer is Aldmeris. I'm not saying that Chi isn't a word taken originally from CHIM, but...two different words, two languages.

Ehlonfex is the root langue of Aldmeris, the two share many words if not most of them. To embrace change is to become a Ruling King, hence Royalty.

I wonder then... Why not go all out with the royalty bit and then capitalize the bloody name? Why not just call themselves CHIMER then? Or CHI'mer? Or CHImer? HAHA, I can totally see the actual Chimer having the arrogance to think of themselves as CHIM'MER Awesomeness (they did become the Dunmer, you know, who we all know are arrogant as fooooooook) and the Altmer still in Summerset are scratching their heads at their puffed up little dissidents hiking over a mountain range and going, "uh no, you are just lowly chimer, changed, but definitely not royal." Or they are saying "We give you permission to think that way." :D

    It's all in perception.

    Karver is 100% correct.

    It is chi-mer, just as it's alt-mer, dun-mer, dwe-mer, fal-mer.

There is no relationship between CHIM and chimer. Folks are trying to make something out of it when there's nothing there.
