The problem with intimidation is that, even at the highest levels with alcohol boosts, it works about 30% of the time. And once it fails, those raiders you snuck up on are now aware of you.

A couple more things I came up with:
When running with a companion, what I like to do is dismiss him, and send him to the settlement nearest my destination, then immediatly recruit him. That way, if he dies, he will go to the last settlement you dismissed him to.
Also, I'm still struggling with me need to pick up every coffee cup and battered clipboard I find. I'm getting better at it, but even with deep pockets, I can only loot a fraction of what I want. What I have been doing is bringing along a companion, fill up his inventory with junk, and send him home when he is full, kicking in the Lone Wanderer perk.
Lastly: Berry Mentats are awesome in survival mode!

Just had to share this.
Went to sleep in a bed in Sanctuary Hills. When I woke up, there was another man in my bed, and I had a disease.
Immediatly after that, Dogmeat "found something." I followed him, and he led be to a shower. Ther was nothing else there, but Dogmeat kept staring at the shower and whining, as if to say, "dude, wash your ass!"

Still plugging away on my first Survival run. I have to say, it's kind of getting boring.
I guess I went a little too OP with the build. Honestly, if it wasn't for the rust devils and swarm bots popping up, I wouldn't have anything to do while moving from one location to another.
As far as helpful hints specific to survival mode, it's my opinion that the Toughness vs Life Giver argument changes. Because eating and drinking regenerates health, one of the biggest benefits of Life Giver, the creeping health gain, is kind of obsolete. Toughness in both the short game and the long game is better for damage resistance.
The biggest advantage I can see in the Life giver perk is that more health points equals more rads that you can soak up. Something I had a big problem with in the early game, running with low Endurance off the start.

I have heard that, but every time I eat, I get the benefit.
I'm wondering if it's because I eat as soon as I get the "peckish" notification. I never let it get past that. The only time I have been more than peckish is after a long sleep, so I'm already at full health.
