Awesome article Vaz. Exactly what I needed to see gathered up.

Ben! The technique is awesome, and reminds me of the Karate Kid's "Wax on, Wax off" lol

I will definitely be working on getting that down.

Vaz, how much faith would you put in your wards buddy? If, say, I'm a stage 4 vampire under the Apprentice sign, would I feel a lot safer also being a ward master?

If you can manage the cost - definitely. You have to be careful with Fire dragons though. When they shout while flying over you, sometimes a small amount manages to pass due to the player not adjusting the ward fast enough or residual flames on the ground. If you have low amount of health that small amount of fire can make quite an impact. In all other situations you can feel absolutely safe behind a Greater Ward even when facing enemies like Arch Pyromancers etc.

Sweet! What do you think of the viability of a sword and ward style approach? Is the charging time too problematic to make shields a preferred choice when facing a dragon in melee?

Level 12 now, perfectly viable but a little tricky. Elemental Fury works beautifully while casting a ward as it speeds up that attack animation and dishes out a lot of damage. The only thing I miss is bash-staggering.

Nice! Casting time is quite fast, especially when fighting dragons as they usually prepare to shout for quite noticeable time. Those Arch level mages are where the trouble is. These guys have quite large magicka pool and open up fights with 1-3 Expert level spells in quick succession which usually destroys the ward if you're not careful. Dodging some of their projectiles makes you safe as their other spells are low-cost, low-damage Apprentice and Adept level spells

I'll be careful. Mages have been a pain in the ass, might think about using magicka draining/absorbing weapons against them

The Thalmor gave me some problems too. My secret weapon? Illusion. It isn't over powered when you've got such a weakness  However, knowing when to use it is part of the fun too because this character is forked if caught without  enough magicka to cast a ward.

How many sword and ward builds are there so I can reference and avoid copying if this ever gets as far as posting?

I don't think there are any builds like that, at least not from the top of my head. Some may use the combo but only situationally and it is never a centerpiece
