Thanks Teccam! They are just life-savers on Legendary. You can block that character-killing Fireballs from Hagravens with just a Lesser Ward. Not to mention their usefulness against dragons!

Thanks Phil! Restoration is a perfectly valid school of magic. And don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

I never doubted it and it wasn't me who kept hiding your research material!

It's interesting that there is something to be said for dual casting wards too. Do you think the extra casting cost is compensated by the near instant charge?

Well, it's all about cost. If you can manage higher cost dual casted wards give you more armor rating and you can basically catch a Fireball thanks to a instant charge. The drawback is that you are locked out of offensive options.

Found one more fact to add!

I dunno if this is worth adding, or if it's just obvious, but one advantage wards have over physical shields is that you can still attack with a weapon while casting a ward, whereas raising a shield prevents you from using your weapon.

Good point! I'll add that to key points section

Thanks so much for putting all of this together, Vazgen!  I learned quite a bit, and have developed a greater faith in their usefulness.  Poor Collete, even I doubted her!

I never used wards other than during the demonstration at the college.  I did use spellbreaker for a bit though.  I might have to start using them after reading this.

Knowing that it would stop a dragons breath would have saved me about 10 healing potions last night when I got attacked at my house.  Went outside to check my fish hatchery and next thing I'm engulfed in flames from the dragon chilling on top of my house.
