too bad you can't put shadow on the synth patroller helmet. I love that thing...but not in white!

Does anyone know of a build focused on using energy pistols?  I was thinking it could be effective to have Gun fu with Preston's perk, especially with the ridiculous ranges you can get them due to Gunslinger perks?  It would also allow you to avoid having to buy Gun Nut, as all the mods can be applied or created with the Science perks.

I was also wondering if anyone has figured out what happens when you apply the Beam Splitter mods to the Sniper Barrels?  This just seems like it could be either really good due to the range buff of the sniper barrel overshadowing the range debuff of the shotgun, or the spread of the scatter makes the sniper barrel nearly useless.  The other ridiculous part is that due to how Gunslinger works you could end up with a laser pistol/shotgun that has a range of 292 and an accuracy of 66?

    Mods In Mind
    Boosted Gamma Wave Emitter
    Improved Sniper Barrel
    Sharpshooters Grip
    Any of the Long Scopes
    Amplified Beam Splitter

What are everyone's thoughts on the Deathclaw Gauntlet? Is it viable? I had an idea for a build of a character who has adapted to the wasteland so to speak, a tanky tribal taking inspiration from the creatures of the wastes. Any suggestions for the aesthetic? I was thinking Wildman rags but that seems a bit plain.

I think anything from the raiders part of the Pack would work for aesthetic. I don't know how soon in the game you can get a Deathclaw Gauntlet though.

You can get the Deathclaw Gauntlet very early if you are brave enough to beat a couple of Deathclaws in the Museum of Witchcraft. It is one of the most interesting places in the game but will kill you quickly if you are a low level and unskilled. Using chems and other cheats/exploits, like going to where the beasts can't pass, will help you a ton.

After watching the series premier of Westworld is anyone else pining for a Gunslinger build? The main thing I find complicated is perception, how far would you invest for this type of build? 44 ammo aint exactly common either.

Ely-  I know of one planned western style build in the works from a member. I don't where he's at with it. But the more the merrier. A couple thoughts as I'm playing a pistols only build right now. First, .44 ammo can be purchased from Tinker Tom in the RR as early as you can get there. The other locations of known .44 are the hill to the east of the Red Rocket, by a corpse where you can also get your first .44 Revolver (enemy = Mole rats). Then head to Hardware town west of Daimond City and clear the raiders. (can be done with some stealth from the back entrance. Upstairs in the room next to the one with the magazine and trunk and key is another 8-10 rounds. Around level 15 most vendors start carrying .44. Then of course - as you proceed into the main quest and track down Kellogg, some more .44s are found (as well as his sweet gun).

Laslty, the Nuka World DLC (accessible at level 30) contains a fairly easily obtained "Western Revolver" at Dry Rock Gulch, which is absolutely beast.

As far as perks, PER helps with accuracy in VATs. Headshots with pistols in VATS are not easily achieved without a lot of PER, but you can make up for that in a few ways - the easiest being stealth.

So, as a newbie to FO4...is this like Skyrim where you can basically open world explore or is it more linear?  I'm having issues finding quests to lead me to the "next" zone and I did read somewhere that "the further south on the map you get, the harder it gets" so do I just wander the northern half looking for areas to unlock?

Unless you count the dlcs, there is no "next" zone. The world is just as in Skyrim. You can go wherever you want whenever you want with minor limitations. For example, you remember how in Skyrim you couldn't get into Saarthal without applying for the college? The same goes in Fallout with ArcJet Systems. You can enter the building but the main areas are blocked by debris until you do a quest for the Brotherhood of Steel. In the south western corner of the map is one of the most hostile zones in Fallout 4. The whole area is plagued by a constant radstorm and there are plenty packs of ghouls, radscorpions and deathclaws.

    OK.  That helps.  Thanks.

Now, what about ammo and weapon repairs (going off of FO:NV here).  I don't see a way to "repair" weapons and what do I do to dump weight?  Seems I have way to much stuff and can't gather more and vendors are not around yet.  At least I haven't found one yet.
