Debate: Legitimacy of Stereotypes?

The information gets distorted, but not because of misunderstanding and not paying attention but rather the unique perception of the story of any individual.

Shor, apparently, the only institution that does that in Skyrim, is the Bards College.

And there are nords in other parts of Skyrim that haven't even heard about the College, or that consider the college a waste of time or something to the "coward people back there on the south".

The work of the mind sadly is undervalued in Skyrim, like said Farengar Secret-Fire.

The stories are memorized and recited. The speaker doesn't put himself in the story in anyway. He doesn't alter it, or do anything but tell it as it was told to him.

But when the story is told to a person this person perceives it in his own way. The next time he tells the story he tells it the way he understood it.

What's different to precieve? The orator is a tape recorder, basically.

No he isn't. He has his own mind, unlike tape recorder. You think all people understand the same story the same way? Take jokes, for example. One person might laugh and other might not.

OK so I made a 'general discussion' earlier not being intelligent enough to look here first ! I thought I'd list the typical stereotypes that are echoed among us in that discussion, not wanting to have two posts covering the same discussion I've deleted mine and I'll post what I said here (bare in mind this are not my personal views).

    • Are all Nords drunken ignorant racists?
    • Are all Altmer arrogant supremacists?
    • Are all Khajiit lying, thieving, drug users/dealers?
    • Are all Argonians filthy animals ?
    • Are all Redguards incessant bickerers prone to infighting?
    • Are all Imperials greedy, lazy, weak hustlers?
    • Are all Bosmer untrustworthy cowards who worship trees?
    • Are all Orsimer violent, backward barbarians ?
    • Are all Dunmer treacherous, xenophobic, backward slavers? (No they're not D:< )
    • Are all Breton Weak, elf-blooded, aristocratic book & magic lovers?

Probably because most of us agree with it :P

Great comment, Kyrie. We should dissect the stereotypes for the other races. Redguard stereotypes are pretty easy to figure out (assuming we're going with Shimazu's list).
