Certainly, competition means that people are trying their best to improve their builds, but everyone should ideally be doing that anyways. Sorting builds by most replies or most likes rather than by activity means that builds that have already been reviewed and seen by everyone will continue to remain on the top of the sorting list, while new or underappreciated builds will always have to be found by digging through the pages of the CB groups. Again, I'm very new and don't have much knowledge of website mechanics, this is just my initial reaction.
I whole heatedly agree. I love the idea of competition just because I think it would be fun, but I don't really think there should be any harsh repercussions to losing a contest. That kind of thing may have been viable back when everyone was on equal footing, and it encouraged quality because that's what won...but I don't think we can honestly say that there isn't a bias now. Half the users are new and the other half are really well known for doing great builds. Not that someone like Liz isn't deserving of her reputation, but the fact she already has it just isn't very fair for whoever she's up against. I mean, I don't really know what a death match is in the context of a character build comp, but I'm guessing the losing build gets deleted or something of the like? That seems like it would be very discouraging to new builders unless make it a blind scoring system somehow.
Plus, I don't agree with the whole "it encouraged better quality" thing... especially now. If anything, by that logic, doing it now would encourage laziness since many older users could just coast on name recognition. Then again, I don't buy into that logic anyway because it's not exactly a fresh game with an over hyped scene...anyone who's still around, new or old, is here because they're passionate about it and, like Xenla said, they have fun putting that extra effort in without having to be encouraged to do so.

I agree with this as well. Infact when I Joined in 2015 , that's how it was running. If your build was in Bloodworks too long it would be be put in a deathmatch with another bloodworks build. I put my first build up later that year. I had put a lot of effort into it and was a little disheartned when, put bluntly, builds thatI thought were of lesser quality were gaining more head way based on who made them rather than the quality of the build itself. I was constantly unnerved by the fact that my hardwork could get deleted. I think the vibes around the deathmatches, was what ultimatley led me to leave the site for about 3 years. I do agree and think it would be great idea to promote compettevness in the communty. It's what make it fun and it's cool to see when you hard work is recognised. But there are definantly beter ways to do this than going back to death matches.

So the idea of the Deathmatch was that 6 Bloodworks ranked builds (sometimes it was more for some reason...) were put into a poll where the loser of the poll (whoever got the least votes) was deleted. As well as that, any builds that couldn't make it out of the Bloodworks (so hit 20 likes) was deleted. I never really understood why people thought they generated much activity, honestly it's not like many builds that went through it suddenly became successful or anything, they just managed to make it to Recognized where they were forgotten, but that's the general idea of the Deathmatch overall.
I doubt I'd ever run something where a build would get deleted, it just isn't my style but I think running a poll based on the lower ranked builds each week where the most voted gets featured would be something I could definitely get behind. Here's where I'm at with that.
So builds that naturally get SE Rank: Adept/Expert aren't added to the...whatever I end up calling it, only the builds from the polls which I think gives everything a more...special feeling? Not sure, I might also think that changing that Adept rank up to Expert so that there's more of a gap between the highest liked builds that get into the poll versus their target.
--------------------Group Formatting--------------------
So look, yeah I can't do anything about formatting at all. I'd love to organise something where I could change the group to at least focus on newest posted rather than just newest commented/edited/changed tags. And if not sort of work it out so that the first page is featured content, the second and third pages are the 20 newest discussions. Then there would be the most liked/commented builds after that.
You know, really I'd love to be able to set it up perfectly but it's not something that can really be done. It sucks a bit, but yeah essentially we won't really be able to do anything to make it better to form the group. What I think has to be done to mitigate this issue is to run things like the 'Build of the Week' and 'Weekly Feature' polls as well as the Weekly Roundup on a more regular schedule. I'll admit that I've fallen off doing them a bit, and I'll try and get back into doing them weekly.
--------------------Team/Competitive Events--------------------
Sure done. Not much more to say about it honestly, let's just say that the next Flash Event will be done as some sort of... 1v1 competitive event.

I'm thinking that the next event (after the currently running Lords of High Rock Event) is going to be a competitive event where you face off against someone (chosen at random) and each design a build around conflicting races. So one might do Altmer vs Imperial, another Nords vs...okay like anyone, another pair might do Argonians vs Dunmer.
And out of each pair there would then be a voted 'winner' through a poll (rather than likes) and the winners then go in another poll, until we get a 'Grand Champion' sorta thing. Not entirely sure on the specifics but that's where my minds leaning, just not sure how to accomplish it in 2 weeks (might extend it to three with a few days of signing up/voting on each side).
