Build Recommendations

  • December 15, 2016

    Hello guys,

I need some help to find a new build. I am looking for something really specific.

For this playthrough, i'd love to play a kind of mage/spellsword character who uses preferably no armor (it can be basic clothing like mourner clothes - i love the grey look - or any mage robe, a circlet)

The character must have a deep backstory/lore or a really specific vibe. Here is a list of skills i wouldn't mind to play with :

Conjuration, be it atromancy or necromancy (or even both), and bound weapons.

Destructionfire or frost oriented, depending on the nature of the character. (Fire magic could be good on a character whose main objective is to eradicate undeads, frost if he is more of a dark mage or necromancer)

Restoration, for both healing (and damage if the character is a "crusader")

Alteration, always nice when having 0 armor!

One handed, only unique weapons or bound weapons (Dawnbreaker, Silver sword, Unique Daggers...)

    Enchanting

    Alchemy

Illusion ? I would rather not use this school of magic but if i really can't pass, it's fine

Again roleplaying is what makes the game fun to me! I love to know exactly what my character has in mind when it comes to taking decisions, be it good or bad etc.  I've been playing the game since release so i am always looking for original ideas and concepts.

What kind of build would you love to play? What alignment for your char?

Mage crusader???, who uses desert magic, sun spells but who doesn't mind using those dead bodies to get the job done!

Necromancer, Dark mage, with an evil alignment. (i've already played the great King of Worms build, i really enjoyed to play as Mannimarco, one of the most popular character of the ES series so why not incarnate someone else? But he must be a bad guy (or girl!)

The last build that i've played was the Dryad by Noodles ( he is probably my favorite build creator) and it was a blast.

Again all the builds that i tried had something unique, in term of playstyle/visual look/atmosphere !

    Thank you guys !

Thank you for the praise man! :D I have two builds that fit your request: The Exorcist and The Twilight of Meridia. The Exorcist fits your gameplay description but lacks backstory although it is deeply rooted into the lore. The Twilight of Meridia fits the gameplay a bit less but it has a rich backstory. They're both mage-crusaders / demon hunters. Exorcist is light side, Twilight is dark side. :D

Thank you Noodles, i didn't expect such a quick response ! The Exorcist seems to fit perfectly my request. Plus i've always loved redguards !

I have a little question about the character, itself. WHat's her alignment? She seems to be a little dark inside as she finds satisfaction in playing with dead bodies.

What quests would you recommend beside College of Winterhold/Dawnguard/Dragonborn?

Thank you, your builds are awesome (and forgive my english, i am french so .... ahah)

The Exorcist is like Batman. Redguards scorn and fear her for doing what's right. She's a hero willing to sacrifice everything for the greater good. She does not play with dead bodies. Read the build carefully and you'll understand that she uses necromancy only to exorcise the dead so that necromancers cannot raise them. She does not use those briefly raised zombies to fight. It's all part of the roleplay because the Ash'abah, the faction she is part of, are known to perform rituals of purification on dead bodies so they cannot be ever raised into undeath. Once a body becomes ash, no necromancer can raise it.

Perfect ! This is really interesting indeed. That will be my crusader build then ! . And i've also found two interesting builds that could fit the necromancer playstyle, Queen Potema and The Pale Lady, which both look great and are quite similar since we play two characters possessed respectively by Queen Potema and Amuriel !

    Thank you !

Oh and by the way, i just found your Wildfoot build. This is just awesome too lol. Archery feels boring most of the time and this one seems so dynamic. All your builds are fantastic, really. I feel we have the same taste when it comes to Skyrim, it cannot be otherwise !

    Have a good day

Your requirements were awfully specific to the Exorcist so yeah, I do think we have the same taste. :D Have fun!

I'm struggling to put together something... bowlingballesque.

Ideally, I'd like to try something that hurls itself into enemies and will come out the last one standing, maybe a bit bloodied but ultimately a survivor. Damage output isn't all that important, though a plus if anyone can suggest something that provides strong defense with good offense.

I don't mind tailoring it a bit so I guess Civil War side doesn't matter too much. I'd prefer one of the human/elven races (would khajiit... please no lizards). With the general idea of barrelling into things I'm thinking melee would be better but I'm open to magic hybrid/caster builds as well. Sneaking is pretty much out - I want to be pouncing and going "RAWWWRRRRR" at things. Werewolves and vampires welcome! Is this starting to sound like a weird dating profile?

@ Vixsyn:  May I suggest the Rito'rishaj'iit it's the most recent build that I can think of that actually emulated a bowlingball (at least that's how I played it).  The roleplay and feel of the character, as well as a few abilities (unarmed damage) make being a Khajiit the best option (and female) but you could change it up if that doesn't suit your fancy.

Thanks for the suggestion. It's actually interesting for a few reasons. I forgot to add in my original post that I would not like to play anything involving cannibalism - I have strong feelings about cannibalism, mostly those of disgust. Well, that would probably have ruled out your suggestion, so I'm glad I forgot, as the approach in the Rito'rishaj'iit is thoughtfully applied and I can reason out the usual strong aversion. I've also never played one of the animalistic races and as I like the concept of the build so much, I am planning my first khajiit. The roleplay aspects of meditation and personal development are things I feel I could engage with.

So yeah, thanks again for the great suggestion :)
