The New Ranks

The build with the highest likes that I'm aware of is Lis' Outsider, at 38. It's a week away from being 6 months old. Considering how long it took most builds to get to old school Legendary, I think it's scaling nicely. And once more people are more aware of -- and engaged with -- our new like system (I'll certainly be using the new ranks), the more easily builds will climb through the ranks. So if you know of a build nearing that 50 mark, and it's a build that you like, yet haven't "liked," go smash that fucker. Click it with all your clicking might.

Hmm, I'm not entirely sure about that, the bit about the scaling not the number of likes that Liss has.

Yeah maybe a lot of really early builds (2011-2013) had a climb but after that, it became more of a situation where you'd get all your likes in the first couple of weeks. Without fail all of my builds hit their rank and then stayed there, and that's just kind of how it works most of the time. Generally speaking, it becomes rarer and rarer for builds to get likes the longer they're in here, unless they're made by a few of those people like Mason, Ponty, NoSnakes who are kind of considered staples, and even they aren't getting likes.

People don't really 'go back' and like old content anymore. It's why The Demonhunter which was well-known for having what... 600+ likes or something insane like that, now has 5 of them. It's not an entirely enjoyable system, but it's one that's kind of been in place even when we were as active as the last 2013/early-mid 2014 period (I can't say for anything earlier since I wasn't there, but this is how the system has tended to work while I've been here).

I'm obviously not saying that people shouldn't check out old content, but it's just not all that common, and I think if we're not even hitting 40 let alone 50 (and that's with an outlier) then we should start off with the lower rank. We can always change the SE Ranks later, if we end up having a surge of likes on builds and it becomes 'easier' to hit 40 then we can move it up to 50 but there just isn't enough getting close to 40 for me to justify agreeing with a 50 like requirement for SE:Legendary.

The Breath of Kyne hit old school Legendary a couple months ago, and was hanging around 90 likes for a while before the move. I'm of the position that we should start it at 50, because I think we can do it if we make concerted efforts to engage with the ranking system by using the tags and leaving likes. I just left a like with the Demonhunter to make my point. If we can't get that to 50, then I shall accept defeat.

But more seriously, I do see your point -- it's a good point. And as far as I'm concerned, the more points Vargr has to consider, the better.

Speaking of the archives I am working on a new archive page that will replace the old one.  I think keeping the archive all on one page is better since is just means one stickied topic instead of two or three.  I try to keep the number of stickied subjects to a minimum since I don't want stickies to override new content.

Ah, yeah that's an issue but I didn't mean actually sticking all the topics. Instead, you could just have one that's stickied but it has links to all the others. An example is what I did with the Workshop recently, I hated that we had around 7 or 8 discussions stickied so I just moved the links to the rules and that sort of thing into a single discussion. It streamlines the whole process on the main page, and while it might not work as well with the Workshop I think a similar system would work perfectly with CB. You'd be able to break it down a bit more than I can.

Dunno, I'll wait and see what your updated Archives look like before going on about this anymore. If you adjust it enough it'll probably be fine, it's just. Man the Archives feel like a heavy read sometimes you know.

Looks perfect to me, Vargr! There's never going to be a perfect solution that satisfies everyone, but I think this is as close to it as can be.

These ranks look good to me I 'd say roll with them :P .

So, since what I'm seeing here going back to look over the consensus is that everyone likes it, when would be a reasonable time to expect these new ranks to be implemented? I look forward to these changes and want to see them achieved.

The ranks have already been implemented, officially been posted in the New Archives and there are some builds that have used them already. But, because they're not required, you'll probably see a slower rise in the number of builds who are using the new ranks (I'm trying to point it out to everyone I stumble across but sometimes just miss them).

Any word on the Legendary rank, Vargr?

I've been thinking about it, and I like the 50 likes threshold, it's a tall, but I feel attainable, order.  I was thinking that if a build were to accomplish such a thing then I would create the Rank at that time and maybe even create a "Legendarium" to showcase builds that attain that rank.  Right now I'm just sitting on the idea, i don't want to create an empty rank and have a link in the archives that leads nowhere.

I don't think any build has 50 likes on Social Engine, right now I think Liss's Outsider has the most at 38 and i believe there are a few others in the 30's.  I think/hope Liss's build will eventually get there.
