Motivation. Why develop technology when you don't want or need to?

Say that to guy dying from some disease or poisin; or the one whose house burned down because the oil lamp fell over some linen; or the one freezing to death because didn't have enough friewood to his fireplace, and so on... sorry, but those people are far from having their needs satisfied, the standards of living in Tamriel are pretty awful.

    So...

Healing spell, frost magic, and fire magic. Done.

I don't know of any disease in Tamriel that can't be cured with a potion or magic, granted it has been years since I last delved into Elder Scrolls lore or even a game. All those other problems are either social or circumstantial.

Done? People die from these things in Tamriel all the time, what are you talking about?

    Few things to note:

From a completely external view, it's a fantasy universe with a specific setting. It ain't changing unless the writers decide to make it un-Elder Scrolls.

But really, if we are to make a lot of assumptions about the TES world and ours being "similar" (no idea why anyone would), we would know that Nirn/Tamriel and all that jazz has only really been around for 6-7 thousand years so it seems that the TES universe is leaps and bounds beyond where we were at the same time...

Magic, potions, Nirn only really being around for 6-7 thousand years...

It is done, those issues as Edd said are solved by magical means or just circumstances anyone could find themselves in. Use magelight instead of a torch, learn a fire spell if you live in a colder climate. Done.

Sorry, but you guys are missing the point of everything I've been saying for the last couple of hours, or are just being stubborn. I really hate repeating myself so I'll just leave it at that. I mean, if you really believe it makes perfect sense for people with an unlimited source of energy would still live like Medieval Europe after thousands of years, fine, whatever.

    K, cool.

I personally enjoy the writers keeping it in a fantasy setting. Technology in any advanced sense would ruin the Elder Scrolls aesthetic.

Oh yes, I wouldn't disagree with that, I love TES. We're just discussing whether it is plausible or not for that world to be so technologically stagnant. Well, it is not lol

Of course it is. But technology is useless when magic exists to literally alter reality as any caster sees fit. This was my point. The examples you have given are more readily solved and more easily solved in TES than they are in our world 100 times over.

In something like Final Fantasy it can make sense for rapid advancement, but in TES, most people probably don't possess the ability, or the desire, to make complex shit
