Hidden Gem Spotlight: Story Corner Edition #3

Hey guys, Teineeva here with another not so hidden gem spotlight for the story corner edition. First of all I would like to reassure you that despite the rampant werewolf pandemic that has been devastating the site, we will still post HGS on time and werewolf free. No werewolf hugging here! Anyway I bring to you another set of great stories and a fantastic poem (although I would suggest you go ahead and look at the entire series if you haven’t already). Enjoy!

While I still have to read up on the latest chapters which I will certainly get to, the long story of today has made a few waves for showing some rather horrible imagery. And while I certainly applaud the authors capability of angering Wing, if we’re going to be specific, it is not the only thing that stands out about this fantastic story. I give you:

“The Bounty Hunter Chronicles” by Ben W

    Screenshot_86.png

During the bounty hunter chronicles you’ll follow a dragonborn turned mercenary (or vice-versa) after he is hired by an upstart group of vampire hunters to investigate an old tomb. But just like it was the case with “A Dance with Daedra” which I previously featured I think it would be best if I let the author present his text himself:

"Xian-Krie has faced many enemies over his life in Cyrodiil and in Skyrim. And why shouldn't he have? He is the Dragonborn after all with a great occupation. This Dragonborn is a Bounty Hunter above all his other titles. A hunter-and-tracker, master archer and expert dagger duelist, this Argonian knows what it takes to finish a contract. The latest job, from a strange organization calling themselves the Dawnguard may lead this hunter into a larger mess than he originally anticipated. But his targets are only vampires. Right?"

While at the start it may seem like a run of the mill story about yet another dragonborn following the dawnguard questline, Ben W manages to quickly turn it around and creates a unique story from the otherwise rather bland questline. We have some great relationships between characters, some really nice combat scenes, vampires, vampire killing (always good, am I right?)... Oh and yeah: Vampire torture.

Keeping that last one in mind it is preferable if you know what you are getting into. The author warns readers that is preferable to be at least 15 years old when you start reading his texts due to the sometimes shocking amount of gore or the darker actions and mentalities that are portrayed. Read at your own risk.

Now let’s move onto the shorts, for the sake of honoring our fallout brethren around here, I decided that this week I was going to show off a fallout short story and while you guys will mainly have to thank my wingwoman for this, the one we found is absolute genius. There still aren’t that many fallout shorts to go around, however, I believe this absolutely deserved the spotlight (and the extra effort I spent in making that pic).

“Big Al’s Casino” By Andrew Shepherd

Ok so has anyone ever played through Fallout New Vegas? Yes, alright, then have you ever thought it was odd you never saw any mutant-owned casinos? Well it seems you just haven’t looked far enough! Andrew Shepherd’s short tells the hilarious story of a day in Big Al’s Casino, a super mutant owned casino for supermutants, ghouls and well, whoever bloody behaves!

If you’re in for good laugh and maybe a hint of gore (come on it’s fallout what did you expect?), should definitely give this one a read!

The last category that I’ll address today are poems our fellow writers have published. After a vampire-hunting bounty hunter and a mutant casino, I would like to introduce you to a skald:

    “Skaldsong” by Paul England

Technically, there are three Skaldsongs by Paul England on the site, and while I will focus my attention on my favourite one: #2, I urge you all to go read the other two if you haven’t already.

As I said, Skaldsong #2 is my favourite from the poems Paul wrote, as the others it is short, beautifully written in ressemblance of the old skald style, and features an event in the story of a dragonborn skald. This time however, instead of telling the story of how the skald defeated a dragon (like in the other two poems), the poem focuses on something a lot less obvious: a gift.

What I honestly like the most about the skaldsongs beside the style is the meaning (more or less hidden) behind certain word choices and Paul’s description of those in the comments.

So please, open that link, have a read and enjoy!

Well this wraps up this week’s hidden (*cough*) gem spotlight. I hope you’ve all enjoyed the spotlight and are already enjoying the fantastic stuff I showed you today. In two weeks my fantastic wingwoman Wing will take my place and guide you through our archives. In the meantime, good luck, good writing and good reading!

Ok guys I'm sorry but I'm afraid I don't have a clue how to fix the title, it worked in the preview, and then it didn't anymore. Again I'm sorry.

Once again, a very good prompt for me to get off my mental butt and actually read stuff. I'll be getting around to these ASAP.

What's up with the title Teineeva?

A nice selection here by the way.

I have no clue why it is doing that, I even went through the HTLM and couldn't find the problem. So yeah, until someone can help me with that it's fucked up.

Really enjoyed The Bounty Hunter Chronicles, second most favorite Argonian story. Lost of gore, blood and vampire torture!

BTW, what happened with Union of the Bounty Hunter? Is it on hiatus?

I don't know about Sotek, but I'm seeing it normally. Wonder what's up, there.

Ok so you guys do see it in normal Vault brown (I guess?) and not in black? In that case ignore my initial comment.
