    Chapter 4: Party in Dragonsreach

Val stayed in the main hall while Balgruuf escorted Theryn to his personal mage. Dragonsreach was well decorated with shields hanging from the support beams and flags on the balconies. "What's your name?" she asked the Jarl's steward.

The steward looked at her confusingly. "Excuse me young lady?" Val smiled. "What's your name?"

The steward answered. "My name is Proventus Avenicci. I'm the steward here in Whiterun. And whom may you be my lady?"

Val bursted into laughter. "Trust me, I'm no lady. You should've seen what I ate last week."

Proventus looked at her with a disgusted look on his face. "If you'll excuse me, I have some things to do." And with that he hurried to the stairs.

Val turned towards the right table and saw a plate with venison on it. "Don't mind if I do." she said and went to the table.

"So you want me to go to Bleak Falls Barrow and get you the Dragonstone?" asked Theryn. The court wizard nodded. Theryn was silent for a moment, and Balgruuf knew that he was deciding wether to help them or leave. "Listen Theryn." he said. "Stay here in Whiterun overnight and take your time to decide this. Go to the Bannered Mare and give this to Hulda." he gave him a ring. "She will know it's from me."

Theryn shook his hand and they went back to the main hall. They stopped when they saw Val. She had her mouth full and was trying to stuff a small piece of chicken meat in. When she saw them, everything in her mouth fell out and she just sat there unable to move.

"Uh... I was just hungry a bit." she said after several seconds. Balgruuf smiled. "Just a bit?" he asked.

Val was still not moving. "A big bit." she said as the last piece of food fell out of her mouth.

"Come on, we're going to get a room." said Theryn as Val got up and they headed for the door.

They went down the stairs, passing by Heimskr as he was screaming about Talos and as always. nobody listened to him. They passed by Eldergleam and went down to the market. Theryn stopped when he saw the general store.

"Hey, Val. Take this..." he said as he handed her a few septims. "...and go buy a Flames Tome." Val took the septims and happily ran to the store as she realized that she will learn a new spell.

Theryn entered the Bannered Mare. The place was mostly empty except for a Nord man that was yammering something about the guard captain and a Nord woman in steel armor that was sitting in the corner, sharpening her blade. He got to the counter and called for the barmaid.

"How can I help you." she asked. Theryn took out the ring. "Jarl Balgruuf told me to give this to Hulda."

The woman observed the ring and said. "I will give you a room and a meal. The room is upstairs."

Theryn thanked Hulda and went outside. He saw Val exit the store with the tome. "Follow me." He said and nodded towards the small yard behind the store and by the walls.

Theryn sat on a bench and said. "Alright, listen to me. Get on your knees and open the book. Put it in front of you and say the verse on the first page out loud."

Val was confused. "I thought you didn't know magic." Theryn smiled. "I don't. But I know how to learn it, every Altmer does. Now do as I said."

Val got on her knees and opened the book. "Feel the fire inside and let it keep you warm." She extended her arms and fire came out, leaving a big black circle on the wall.

Val jumped as high as she could. "I did it! I did it!" Theryn clapped. "See, I told you. All you have to do is feel it inside you. Let your body create fire or ice, not your mind. Your young and you might not understand me now, but you will eventually figure it out. Come on, let's get something to eat."

Several hours later, Hulda brought them a message to their room. "What does it say?" Val asked.

"It's a message from the Jarl. He's inviting us to a feast in Dragonsreach." said Theryn.

"Yay! I have to get ready." jumped Val from her bed.

Theryn got up and he put on some clothes he found in the drawer. He was surprised that it fit him perfectly.

Half an hour later they entered Dragonsreach and saw the place full. The entire town was inside enjoying the feast. They went p and found a place for them.

"Are you enjoying the feast?" asked Proventus. Val was eating like crazy again. "It's great. Can anyone pass the potato?" she said.

Proventus turned to Theryn who was barely eating anything. "How do you keep up with her?" he asked. Theryn laughed. "Barely."

The feast continued for an hour and then the Jarl stood up to give a speech.

"I know that you're all scared about the war and the dragons, but do not worry, we will fight back and endure as we always did. We will not be defeated by war and politics or the flying beasts. We will fight until the end. Let us raise our mugs for our glorious city."

Everyone cheered as the music started and everyone started dancing. Val stood up and took Theryn's hand. "What are you doing?" he asked.

"Let's dance." she said. Theryn chuckled. "I don't know how to."

"I'll teach you. Come on." she said.

Theryn got up and they went to the dance floor. "Okay, put your right hand here and give me your left hand."

Theryn was trying to listen to Val's instructions and pay attention not to step on her feet while she was going around him. They were spinnig like crazy and Theryn bumped into the Jarl. "Apologies." The Jarl laughed. "Don't worry, you'll get the hang of it."

They continued dancing until Theryn slipped and fell on his butt. "Hahaha, I can't believe you fell!" said Val as Theryn stood up. As time passed, he started getting better at it and soon he managed to keep up with her.

"I think I got it now." he said. A moment later he was on his butt again. "I don't got it."

The dance was over after midnight. As Theryn and Val decided to go to sleep, Val heard a voice in her head.

"Come and find me, mortal." the voice said.

"Did you hear that?" she asked Theryn. He was confused. "Hear what?" he asked.

"Nothing, it was nothing." she said. Theryn nodded towards the door. "Let's go to sleep, we have a big day tommorow."

    Val smiled. "Right behind you."
