Examining the Time Dragon

  • January 12, 2016

It isn't exactly a contradiction) The thing is that since Alduin himself as well as the other dragons (I don't think Paarthurnax is the only one) don't think he is Akatosh, all the Nords and Imperials can go and believe the moons are made of cheese))

Our first loose connection. So far we've been dealing mostly with direct links to Akatosh or Auri-El but now we get to the fun of sorting through a Deity that is only loosely linked to the Time Dragon. Now before delving into the connections I'm going to give a breif introduction to who Ruptga is.

Ruptga or Tall Papa is the chief deity among the Yokudan/Redguard Pantheon who is responsible for teaching the other gods the Walkabout which essentially allows them to become immortals

Yokudan mythology can be the thing which knocks down many people's carefully constructed  house of cards and so I feel, for that reason alone, that we should explore this further.

In fact, when it comes to arguments for and against mythopoeia, the Redguard pantheon could be a really good example in favour of the process. If the standard model of The Weheel is correct and there must be 8 spokes in the wheel, who's who becomes really tricky as you point out. It's hard to stay firmly in the "Akatosh is Auriel" camp when looking at it from a Redguard perspective.

Aye, the Yokudan mythology can be fairly interesting, especially in the way that some gods and deities are closely linked to Imperial/Altmer ones (For instance the Sakatal/Shorkan links I mentioned above) and then others are so completely different.

I'm not all that familiar with the Wheel model, I think I read an article here on it once but I really can't remember, would you mind linking it to me before I make an ass out of myself trying to makes links

Thanks Phil, I'm hopeless at navigating the Lore Group right now (Really need more practise, better start on that soon )

I don't know how you'd really fit all of the Yokudan deities into the idea of the Wheel right now. Obviously the fact that most of our Deities have a paragraph to describe them really makes it quite difficult to place, but they're also a very different religion than Elven/Human religion.

They're a much more warlike religion in my opinion. With Diagna, Onsi, Leki and HoonDing all seeming to fill in a War-God position that just isn't as prominent in other pantheons.

I could connect Tu'Whacca and Arkay connect easily enough, Tava and Kyne as well I suppose. After that it just gets really shaky, Zeht and Zenither have been connected by UESP but to me that's based off a very limited idea of them both being agricultural gods and isn't really a solid enough link, and it's pretty much the same with the others from what I can tell.
