    I guess I am a little I am just much better with a bow\crossbow than a sword not a big fan of stealth either (too impatient and quick to charge in swords and spells flying)

    Out of curiosity, what is the advantage to not using anything in the off hand other than flavor?

    A free hand for magic, plus a shield-free blade-dancer plays in a very stylish & free-flowing style

    It just seems superior to use a shield. You spend the same amount of time switching from empty to magic, and it's better for blocking.

    I think the point is to deemphasize the blocking. This build isn't for taking or even taking hits.

    Well it seems superior to use Daedric armour on every character ever but we don't do that hey?

    It's really just for flavour reasons, using a big shield on an agile duelist/assassin type guy seemed out of place.

    Fair enough. As a wise man once told me, never compromise the flavor for the purpose of mechanics.
