The idea came to me one day I wanted to play DiD, with well-rounded, 3D character profiles and remembered the days I played dungeons & dragons; with all those traits and flaws; and the fun I had when I randomized them. You get some really cool and crazy characters.

So... Why not the same on Skyrim? I didn't found any really good source of that anywhere; there were some that helped me but nothing like that d&d thing. So I decided to do it myself, with some help. Here is a "large" list of Traits and Flaws; and how to roleplay them in-game.

Here is my source for all I put here (I hope to add some in the future):

If you got an idea for a trait or flaw that is not on the list, please post it on the comments, I'll put it in the list with its proper credit. Thank you :3

    3.5e Traits - D&D Wiki

    3.5e Flaws - D&D Wiki

I tried to do it for everbody (Console and PC players, Vanilla and moded.. ) But there is a few features just PC Gamers could do.

Well... without more intre I present:

    TRAITS & FLAWS IN SKYRIM

There is actually 91 Traits & Flaws on the list. Some of them could be inner-attached if using a specifically Build (for example: Honorable Fighter is inner-attached to the The Knight of Tim Faroe); others are more oriented to gain them through gameply; such as "Binding Contract" or "Amputee", but nearly all (if not all) could be choosen for the character personality at the creation. Hope you enjoy

    1. Adorableness: Characters with this trait usually are younger and are the younger brother/sister of other party members or NPC's. They tend to be ditzy and very lovable and sometimes clingy. They also can get flustered easily and somewhat annoyed when people tell them "That's nice dear".

    • Train on Speech a bit.
    • Perk Haggling and up to Persuade
    • If you got some followers they would like to do small things for you; such as open doors and chests.
    •  Use Calm spells more frequently than Fear or Frenzy.

    2. Amputee: You are missing a limb. An interesting one to roleplay. Difficult to play though… Could be a nice one to give your character a nice end play.

    • ·Choose what limb you lost: An arm or a leg:

          · Arm: You cannot use bows nor crossbows or two-handed weapons.

You cannot dual-casting spells or grab a weapon with that arm. Hardcore players: Cannot block

    •  Leg: You cannot sprint, neither use critical charges nor silent rolls.

You should stop time to time if going on foot.

    3. Alcoholic: “ A few drinks, a few laughts, and a contest. What could be bette?”

    •  Always and I mean ALWAYS have at least four Nord Meads or other alcoholic drinks. And drink them often; and much.
    • (PC Players): People who use mods that have an effect on alcoholism, may get drunk all day.

    4. Addiction: See “Alcoholic” above; the same but with skooma and moon sugar.

    Prerequisite: No lawful-alignment

    5. All Brawn No Brain: Characters who are all brawn, no brain might choose to look down upon characters that use spellbooks (to the point of laughing in the other's face, or even trying to "murder" the book); they might be found vandalizing a library or personal collection after getting drunk. The character may also decide that bodybuilding is their life and develop a mild obsession with working out or practicing their combat maneuvers.

    • I would say… No Spell Tomes! However if you want to play a mage with this trait (Strange thing though) you could soft the rule to: No BUYING Spell Tomes; so you only cast spells you find.
    • Get cocky in front of mages; dodging their spells and such things.
    • On your free time train a LOT. Specially with training puppets and doing squats.

    6. Arachnophobia: You have quite the fear of spiders and other arachnids.

    • Easy one: Avoid fighting with spiders or ash hoopers or even dwarven spiders.
    • If you are in the need to get through a spider cave or spider boss to continue a quest; take a mercenary or other follower take care of it.
    • If you can’t have a follower or the need to pass through the spiders is too big do it yourself; but at safe distance with spells or bow&arrows.

    7. Asthmatic: Afflicted with a respiratory condition marked by spams in the lungs, causing difficulty in breathing.

    • Cannot run long distances. Stop breathing after you sprint.
    • Difficulty to use Heavy-armor and two-handed weapons. They make you breath harder and faster.

    8. Automatonophobia: You are afraid of things that resemble life, such as dolls and puppets.

    • First thing is: No Dolls in inventory. Second: Do NOT train with training dummies… It’s disgusting for you.
    • If you want to get more serious: Be afraid of Animunculi like Dwarven Centurion or Dwarven Sphere (see “Arachnophobia” above).

    9. Aurophlia: Find a septim, pick it up. Find gold, give it to me now!

    •  Take every coin you can see. Even if it would take you in danger; for you a single septim worth a life.
    • Mine Gold veins; but do NOT sell the ores. The gold is just for you.
    •  If you see an ore vein approach to it to see if it is gold or not. If you see a mine enter in it and look for gold; even if you have to kill for it.
    • Kill any thief that try to keep your gold away from you.

    10. Avenger: You have a grudge that must be settled… Pick a type of creature, race or faction that had affected you in the past… You have an inner hate against them.

    • The chosen creature, race or faction had changed you… You would love to see all of them dead. So make your own justice.
    • ·In a fight with numerous enemies; if you see a target of your choice, go straightly forward him.

    11. Bad Seed: It’s hard to be good when you’re tainted by evil.

    Prerequisite: No Evil alginment

    • If you are a good alignment character get evil alignment with time.
    • It can be very dramatic in a story; such as fallen angel or a knight getting in the dark side…

    12. Beastial Instinct: You prefer to meet your foes so close that you can smell their blood. Very common trait among werewolves and animal instinct characters.

    • Who needs to hide?! COME HERE!! YOU STUPID MILK DRINKER!!! Get close to your enemy:
    • As a warrior use melee weapons; no archery unless necessary; as a mage use cloak spells and other close-combat spells more frequently.
    • Critical charges are great attacks for this kind of characters.

    13. Berry Picker: You only eat what you prepare for yourself.

    • Easy: Don’t buy food. Just hunt yourself the animal and cook it.

    14. Bibliophile: You are unable to resist reading.

    • Read every FUKING book your character could love. That includes Spell Tomes; even if your character is not a mage. It’s not for the power; it’s for the knowledge and furthermore; the joy.
    • Roleplayers who wait for simulating reading should wait half as normal if his character has this trait.

    15. Big:  Unlike most members of your race, you are exceptionally large: A giant among yours.

    Prerequisite: Not Dwarfism

    • This one is easier for PC players, who could install mods for height change on races and player or just the console command: “setscale to [n]”. However could be roleplayed by everyone with a bit of imagination.
    • Train some Speech and perk Intimidate.

    16. Binding Contract: You have been cursed by a powerful deity to be bound to a specific item. This item could be a stone, amulet, book, armour or weapon.

    • Quite cool to roleplay Daedric Quests. Cursed by them you must use it artifact more than anything else.
    • It doesn’t have to be a daedric artifact. You can get on a lot of good roleplaying stuff with it.

    17. Blind: Simply: You cannot see; however the grade of blindness can change from person to person; for example: If you had an accident of some kind that gave you a little blindness is grade 1. If you had a serious accident directly to the eyes it’d be worse. Or you just can be born blind.

    • I read somewhere on internet a player who simulated this adjusting the brightness. SO, if you had a bit blindness put the brightness a bit dark; if you had a serious blindness put it totally dark.
    • For blind born characters I’ll suggest to put maximum darkness and maximum volume; some headphones would be much appreciated too. You could turn off the music in order to hear better your surroundings.

    18. Carnivore: Your diet do only consist on meat based aliments. No vegetables, no fruit, no CHEEEEEEESEEEEEE, (idea from: Robert Banach)

    Prerequisite: Not Herbivore Trait.

    • Just limit your eating food to meat.

    19. Child of Nature: You grew up in a forest or some other natural surroundings, but have lost all contact with civilization.

    • Very common among the characters and profiles I read. They just prefer to stay out of cities; sleeping in the countryside and they usually get well with the animals (Get Voice of the Sky).
    •  Get a dog or a troll (dawnguard) as companion instead normal followers.
    • Make heavy use of familiar spells, if you are a magicka-user.
    • Bad Speech.

    20. Chivalrous: Wether due to a vow or natural inclination, you do not fight women.

    • Simple as it looks. The only time you don’t have to follow the rule at 100% is when a woman is the boss of a quest, however do not employ all your arsenal in the battle….

    21. Chummy: You prefer being part of a group/team/pack.

    • Get a follower; some followers if you have mods (PC Players), however set the difficulty on Master or Legendary.

    22. Clumsiness: Pretty self-explanatory.

    • Bad at Sneak and Dual-wielding. (PC players could use commands like: “player.modav –[n] sneak”, This will low your sneak skill [n] points as a debuff)

    23. Complete Apathy: You are incapable of emotions, and to other you may seem soulless.

Prerequisite: No other traits or flaws related to emotions.

    • The unique follower type you can use are mercenaries; no emotional bindings.
    • No marriage, no kids, no family… Even no close friends.
    • Low Speech level.
    • Normally, cold blooded and capable to retain fears.

    24. Compulsive Killer: When somebody pisses you off, they are going to die before the night is done.

    Prerequisite: Short Temper

    25. Compulsive Liar: You just feel the need to lie.

    Prerequisite: No Compulsive Truthteller.

    • Just lie all the time.
    • Increased Speech level. (PC players can do it with “player.modav [n] speechcraft”.)
    • Perk bribe and/or persuade.

    26. Compulsive Truthteller: You cannot stand telling lie.

    Prerequisite: No Compulsive Liar.

    • Pretty simple: Always say the truth; do not lie. If someone tells you to lie DO not. Trust the Guard Holds.

    27. Courageous: You have no fears, and will always use iron grit to push your party on.

    Prerequesite: No Coward.

    • Never surrender: Glory or death. You are not afraid of dangerous tasks or enemies.
    • If you have any follower by your side keep him safe, you’ll charge to the enemy to keep them out of danger.

    28. Coward: You are susceptible to fear.

    Prerequisite: No Courageous.

    • If you are in serious danger flee. No battle worth your life.
    • Avoid dangerous tasks or quests you can’t do easily or sneak through.
    • If you have any follower let him/her charge before you do engage combat.
    • Cowards tend to raise their sneak ability (optional)

    29. Curious: You have a nack for exploring place or objects you shouldn’t.

    • Go through every cave, ruin, dungeon you f***ing see.
    • Pull, open, push every door, chain, pillar, chest… even the smallest things such as barrels, sacks and urns… specially the smallest things.
    • As an alternative; you could choose a subject of your curiosity; such as Dwemers, Falmers, other creatures like trolls, undead, vampires, werewolves, daedras, Gods…. And investigate everything you can find of your subject in book, quests or related places.

    30. Curse of the Wild: The lycanthropic affliction that runs through your veins is so potent that you can barely control your changes even at the best of times, but in turn, it proves easier to assume your much savage form on whim.

    Prerequisite: No Tame Spirit

    • Just to say an object: Cursed Hircine’s Ring. Very used in roleplay.
    • Transform time to time, especially on nights, obligated if it is full moon.
    • (PC Players): Tales of Lycanthropy – Werewolf Overhaul should be a must.
    • Stay on beast form all the time you can; as you feel comfortable on it, but think like a wolf. Hunt, even your beloved ones could be murdered if you’re under your bestial instinct.

    31. Dead Nerves: The character has a weak sense of touch and is incapable of feeling pain.

    • An interesting thing to do this is to hide your HUD (if you have it enabled) in order to NOT see your Health bar. Not knowing what HP you have left is like “THERE IS NO PAIN!!!”

    32. Deaf: Your hearing is much worse than normal.

    • Like we did in “Blind” trait, you could have a variety of grades. But the important thing is: TURN DOWN the sound. Even mute it… Hardcore players would take out subtitles as well. Unless he is purely Deaf, in that case I mute the game but keep the substitles to make it like my character is capable to read the lips of those who are talking to him.

    33. Dependable: You feel the need to be with people near you, you can’t stand going alone.

    Prerequsite: Not Detached

    • Take a follower as soon as you can.
    • In case you cannot take a follower in some situations, apply “Coward” trait rules.

    34. Detached: You are a lone-wolf. You prefer doing the things your way and don’t want anyone to be in the middle.

    Prerequisite: Not Dependable

    • Simply don’t take a follower. EVER.
    • If you have to take a follower with you because of a quest. Be harsh to that person and when engage keep him/her waiting safely.

    35. Diplomatic Leader: You are born leader, able to lead your comrades into battle, but you prefer to negotiate for peace.

    • Very high Speech level.
    • Perk Persuasion as soon as you can.
    • It’s not necessary, but people get on well with you (even if you don’t) so many could like to be your follower.

    36. Directionless: You have no sense of direction, you cannot get anywhere without the help of someone and a map.

    • First of all: Take out the compass HUD (I play always without it)
    • Do not use the MAP in game; unless you are in an inn or with some friend or Hold Guard who could show you the way.
    • If you need a map use an image from google or print it.

    37. Disorganized: You are disorganized and clutter seems to follow you where ever you go.

    • Don’t store anything; when you do not want something not valuable drop it to the ground. Your valuables that you would to leave at your house drop theme all around your home.

    38. Dissociative Identity Disorder: It’s a case where the subject has two or more different personalities; with no memory of the actions of other Alter Egos. This cannot be caused by drug use or other medication. Without doubt one of the funniest trait you could try; Sheogorath’s minions tend to born with it.

    • Just as said, make two (or more) different personalities and change form one to another all the time. EVEN IN THE MIDDLE OF A CONVERSATION!
    • If one of the personalities is Lawful, would try to find what is going on with him and maybe put a remedy.

    39. Divinely Spellgifted: One of your Gods had seen something on you… and It gave you a gift; like blessing.

    • As a gift mark you must wear the amulet of the God who blessed you (if one of the Nine Divines). Get his/her blessing from altars every time you can.
    • (PC Players): Increase your magicka through commands.
    • Learn some Spells that would be gifted from your God, even if you don’t use them. To be gifted is not necessarily see as a blessing, some would call it a curse; others just don’t take attention to it.

    40. Dwarfism: You are very short.

    Prerequisite: Not Big

    • Console players should need a bit of imagination with this.
    • Never intimidate as people are not afraid of you at first sight.

    41. Effeminate Build: Unlike most male members of your race, you are exceptionally small and feminine.

    Prerequisite: Male character.

    • Create a feminine male in Character Creation; no beard.
    • Not good at intimidating, so don’t even try.
    • If your character dislike his aspect train hard to give a lesson to the people who calls you milk-drinker.

    42. Exhibitionist: A character with this flaw suffers the compulsive need to remove all of his equipment whenever encountering new creatures or people. The more creatures around, the stronger the compulsion. However the presence of young offspring lessens this effects.

    • Quite self-explanatory. Whenever you meet new people show them your… ejem… private parts… or just go around Skyrim half naked.

    43. Extreme Masculine: You are disturbingly masculine, and people tend to believe you to be a guy.

    Prerequisite: Female character.

    • Just the reverse way of “Effeminate Build”

    44. Fear of Magic: You find magic incredibly frightening.

    • Get away from mage and magic users. You prefer to stay away and flee.
    • Don’t use magic; for shouts train with the Greybeards in order to stand the using the Thu’um. (It is a kind of magic)
    • Alternatively; you could choose one or more school of magic and have fear just to them.

    45. Fear of Starvation: You are terrified of starving to death, as such you must always bring food with you.

    • As said, always have fresh food on inventory.
    • Eat often, more than normal If you are out of a town.
    • If you are out on adventure and get out of supplies, your primary goal would be hunting some to eat before get going. If you cannot act like someone with the trait “Coward” until you have food.
    • (PC Players): If you are using a mod of basic needs, such as “Realistic Needs and Diseases” (the one I use), stay always in satiated mood (Not even a little puckish).

    46. Fridgetophoric: Can’t seem to hold still. At all. Must always be moving.

    • Don’t stay more than a few hours in the same place, unless you have rent a room in an inn.
    • Extemely prejudicial to Stealth; a character with this trait don’t like hiding too much and dislike crawling too slow.

    47. Fleet but Frail: Seriously, you should thank all of the living gods you can AVOID a hit, you sure as hell can’t TAKE one! Or as I called it: Hardcorest Dark-Souled Hardcore mode.

    • Don’t get hit. Simple as that. If your HP get below 50% you are considered dead (Console Players)
    • (PC Players): aaaah, console commands give us a little more to play with:

                              · Increase your movement speed; characters with this trait use to be agile.

                              · Decrease your Health 10 points per level. (Until 1 HP).

    48. Focused Training: You trained yourself to master one skill at the cost of others.

    • Well. Pretty much that: Stop leveling a skill and focus leveling another.
    • Train like you would in real life: For crafting skills spend days crafting to get better, for combat skills use dummies or targets for arrows; same for magic skills.
    • (PC Players): With commands we could put a debuff in the skill we are leaving and a buff in the one we are going to level.

    49. Generous: You feel that your money or time is expendable to the needy.

    • Give some coin to the poor beggar; give some ale to the drunk. Help with a little task for those who need it and give some presents to the closest ones (Just drop the gift in front of him/her or at his/her house)

    50. God-Like Beauty: You are graced with beauty, having the best features of your race and gender. You can stop others in their tracks with just a look.

    • High level of Speech; perking Persuade an Allure are great for this.

    • Do not attack an enemy from behind or when he is on the ground.

    57. Hydrophobia: You detest water.

    • To sum everything up, I’ll say… Act like Cicero.

    80. Sadist: Your character is incapable of spending a day without inflicting pain upon another living creature.

    • As simple as it seems.

    81. Sexist: Your character has something against the opposite sex and believes that the character’s sex is the superior sex.

    • Just imagination.
    • Agent of Dibella is a great passive to get for sexist characters.

    82. Short Temper: You get enraged easily.

    • If someone wants to brawl; Punch him on the face!
    • If someone piss you of; Punch him on the face!
    • If someone called you milk-drinker; Punch him on the face!
    • If someone is just staring at you too much… Punch him on the face!

    83. Solopsist: You think that everything around you is fake, a creation of your own mind.

Prerequisites: Neutral Character. Law, Chaos, Good and Evil are just part of your mind, so why you care about them?

    • Just do what you pleases!!! Sheogorath would be so pride of you :’)

    84. Submissive: Your character likes following orders and has trouble disobeying them.

    • Follow all orders people give you, they could be for questing or just when they want you to walk away from them.
    • Do not command anything to a follower.

    85. Tame Spirit: Something about your being is civil to its core, and despite your lycanthropic affliction, you manage to hold some greater semblance of control.

Prerequisite: Being a werewolf, Not have “Curse of the Wild”

    • The Ring of Hircine is quite a good trinket to simulate you can control your inner beast.
    • You can control your werewolf transformations, unless it’s full moon.

    86. Tidiness: Everything must be clean, tidy and immaculate or you might not even sleep that night.

    Prerequisite: Non Chaotic character.

    • Just the inverse of “Disorganized”

    87. Traplover: If you see a Trap you have the urge to set it off.

    • Funny one; just follow the description.

    88. True Believer: You have a habit of evangelizing to most people you meet.

    Prerequisite: You worship a deity.

    • Spread the word of your chosen deity; maybe one of the Nine; maybe one of the Old Gods. Or maybe a Daedric Prince. Pray at their altars and offer some valuables to them (or sacrifices).

    89. Tunnel Vision: When fighting you focus in on a target but neglect other targets.

    • When fighting go one for one killing all enemies; you won’t touch another target until your currently target is lying dead on the ground.

    90. Unfocused: You need to concentrate a lot in order to cast your spells in the middle of the battle.

    • When casting or charging a spell don't move. If you move while doing it you lose your focus (sheathe the spell)
    • A character with Clummsiness trait will fail the spell if he moves while charging it (Shoot the spell to the ground instead sheathing the hands)

    91. Unready: You are never ready for combat.

    • When engaging unseath your weapon when you are toe-to-toe, not before.

Amazing post! I might actually be able to do a proper RP  for once using this resource.

That really is a quite extensive list

However, there seems to be one major mistake in your text, namely the part where you describe that "you don't like undead nor random corpses"; that is a trait called necrophobia in English, not what you called it. Your expression means something altogether different and I am definitely sure you did not intend to use it. Please replace it with necrophobia.

Other than that, I like your list and have given you a +1

Really nice work here, mate. Some of these are very clever/interesting. I love the asthmatic concept ... Especially if you can be disciplined about applying it in the middle of super intense fights. If I played a character like that, I might stunt Stamina and/or Stamina Regen a bit to further restrict myself.

That's my biggest problem with marrying roleplay to gameplay -- I have a lot of trouble applying the rules to myself on a consistent, impartial basis.

Also, just FYI, you meant necrophobia. Necrophilia is ... something different. Lol...

On a serious note, this is a great post, but I couldn't resist.
