Main Questline
Dragonborn takes place on Solstheim, an island off the coast of Morrowind inhabited almost completely by Dunmer. To get to Solstheim you have to travel to the Windhelm docks and talk to a man named Gjalund Salt-Sage and ask him to take you to Solstheim on his ship The Northern Maiden. In order to initiate the main quest however you must have started the quest The Horn of Jurgen Windcaller. Next time you travel to a town or other location you will be attacked by 3 cultists sent by a mysterious being called Miraak. You will find a note on the cultists' body that will start the quest Dragonborn and send you to Solstheim. When you arrive you must talk to the townsfolk and eventually one of them will tell you about Miraak's Temple. The quest will update and send you there. Once there you will see a bunch of hypnotized people working on the temple. You will meet a woman named Frea who is protected from Miraak's influence. After a brief conversation your quest will be complete and you will start The Temple of Miraak.
During this quest you will go through Miraak's Temple with the help of Frea. It will be infested with Draug and cultists. When you get to a certain point there will be a powerful boss draug called Draug Gatekeeper. He carries an ebony sword and has a lot of health. Once you defeat him get the key to the door and don't forget to grab a word for the new shout Dragon Aspect. When you reach the end of the dungeon you will find a book called Black Book: Waking Dreams. Read the book and you will be transported to the realm of Hermaeus Mora, Apocrypha. There you will see Miraak and two new creatures called seekers. Miraak will give you a lecture about being Dragonborn and then ride away on a dragon, while your sent back to Solstheim. Talk to Frea and the quest will end and start the quest Fate of the Skaal.
Follow Frea to her village and talk to her father Storn-cragstrider. He will tell you about the All-maker stones and ask you to cleanse them specifically the Wind Stone. This starts Cleansing the Stones and puts your objective at a dragon lair Saering's Watch, where you learn Bend Will, the shout that will cleanses the stone. There you will have to fight a dragon and Miraak will steal it's soul from you. Travel to the Wind Stone and use the shout on the stone. After you cleanse the stone a Lurker will burst out and you must kill it. Return to Storn and he will tell you to visit Neloth, a Telvanni wizard at Tel Mithryn. This ends Fate of the Skaal and starts The Path of Knowledge.
Your primary objective will be to find Neloth at Tel Mithryn. Once you find him and speak to him he will tell you to meet him at Nchardak. Once there Neloth will explain that the entire ruin is controlled by these strange cubes one of which he brought with him. You will need five in total to unlock the panel with the Black Book Epistolary Acumen. Follow Neloth down the stairs to the nchardak great chamber and he will show you how to use the cubes to control the pipes. Continue through the ruin using the control cube to find more control cubes until you have 5 of them. Once you have found all the cubes return to the room with the steam pipes and activate them to unlock the book. You will have to fight a dwemer automaton so be careful. Travel back upstairs to the room with the book. press the button and the book will be released. Neloth will promptly tell you to read the book. This ends Path of Knowledge and starts the quest The Gardener of men.
Do so and you will be transported back to apocrypha. work your way through the book to the final chapter. there you will find a Hermaeus Mora as a mass of tentacles. Speak to him and he will give you the second word of bend will. He will then blackmail you into trading the skaal's secrets for the final word. agree and he will disappear. Chose your power and return to Solstheim. When you exit Nchardak a dragon will attack. You must then travel back to the Skaal village. Speak to Storn and explain what must be done. He will only do it if you have cleansed the stones so if you haven't do so before speaking to him. Once you have he will take the book and walk to the center of the village. when he opens it an animation of Hermaeus Mora impaling Storn with his tentacles. Once Mora has taken the Skaal's secrets and killed Storn he will teach you the final word of bend will. Frea will then urge you to defeat Miraak. This ends the Gardener of men and starts the quest At the Summit of Apocrypha.
Read the Black Book Waking Dreams and you will be transported to Apocrypha once more. Traverse through the black book and solve the puzzle to reach the final chapter. Then learn the word for dragon aspect and tame Sahrotaar with bend will ride him to Miraak. Land and Miraak will start rambling about the oncoming battle attack him to cut his speech short. Once you get rid of all his health he will absorb a dragon soul and heal himself. He does this 3 times and the after the final soul is absorbed and you whittle his health down to zero Hermaeus Mora will finish him off. When he dies you will absorb at least six dragon souls and any he stole from you. This concludes the dragonborn main questline. You can loot Miraak for his unique robes, sword, and staff. In addition you can also use a dragon soul to reset any perks you spent in any chosen skill tree (your skill level doesn't change).
