Hoods with Circlets in Dragonborn

  • April 30, 2013

I found this exploit when playing through the Dragonborn DLC and it is still not patched (luckily) so I'll show you how it works:

I found that most Dunmer clothes are glitched to a point that they can stack together, but may be not common (must test that) but what happened every time was this glitch.

I discovered when I found a hooded version of the Dunmer Clothes outside of the Bloodskal Barrow.

There are some reavers on the towers and after dispatching them you may find the clothes amidst other items. The clothes are the red hooded version (nothing special there) but can be worn with a circlet similar to the hooded Archmage's Robes, but the circlet isn't visible all the time.

If the game is saved with the Clothes with Circlet combo on (if the circlet isn't visible) and then reload you may notice the circlet becomes visible again. You can equip a mage hood (any) and the hood removes the clothes but keeps the circlet on. If it doesn't show the circlet when weraring the hood save & reload when the hood is worn with the circlet at the same time.

Works with Diadem of the Savant (making a headpiece stack spell cost reduction + hood's enchantment) making it a stylish way to wear non-armor clothing and have extra protection without hindering the Mage Armor perk.

I tested it on Xbox, any user of the other platforms is welcome to post results.
This can be an alternate to the fix of the Falmer and Penitus Oculatus helmets.
    Thanks and Enjoy!

Cool find.  I think the next step, if you're up for it, is to test whether it affects perks like Unhindered, Wind Walker, Well FItted, etc.  That is, if you're wearing both the Diadem and a mage hood, do you still benefit from the above perks?  Or does the game only recognize the hood as being actively equipped for the purposes of those perks?

It does with the Diadem, I tested it before even thinking of posting this. The hood is like all other clothing are classed like jewelry from what I noticed, since even by being naked Mage armor works.

I still get the armor boost of full light armor set, and wind walker with the diadem and hood, but the diadem also works with heavy armor perks like well fitted, making this very useful in the long run.

Good find, but we're using a different naming/tagging system now. You'd just call your post 'Hoods with Circlets in Dragonborn, and then tag it "Tips and Tricks Exploits" "Tips and Tricks Hints" (similar to the new CB system).

Thanks, renamed and added the tags.

Tried it myself recently and it makes me feel even more badass as a mage.

This also works with a Vampire Hood if you are role-playing or simply prefer a black hood that doesn`t clip into most outfits as the Mage Hood often does.

Built a very nice all-black clothing ensemble for my Necromancer with Vampire Hood/Gloves/Boots , Necromancer Robes of Resurgence , and the Aetherial Crown.

If you`d rather wear a full seat of Heavy Armor(not Falmer) with the Aetherial Crown , try this.

Don Dunmer Outfit and Aetherial Crown.

Then equip any Ebony or Daedric Helmet.

The outfit will be removed and you will be wearing both head pieces.

This will also allow a Cultist`s Mask to be worn with the crown.

It doesn`t appear to work with the Diadem of the Savant , other circlets, or Dragon Priest Masks .(at least for me-Xbox)
