  It is truly ridiculous, you will average 2-3 gems per container which includes not just urns and burial urns but also all treaure chests as well as the lootable draugr corpses (the ones that never come to life).  You can go through a nordic ruin and literally walk away with upwards of 200 gems.  You did not misread that number.

  I usually use gems to make elemental salts with the atronach forge then turn those into staves/scrolls for followers.  You haven't played a true thief until you have Prowler's Profit and have a collection with over 1000 of each type of gem

  It synergises well with the spider scrolls too, as those can really eat up gems if used a lot.
