Camp NaNoWriMo!

Meet National Novel Writing Month's much more relaxed cousin!

With a new Camp NaNo starting up on the very 1st of April 2016, I thought I'd get everyone informed a good 3+ weeks in advance. I know some of you plotters might like to get a head start on crafting a story idea!

"But Fawn, I'm still burnt out from NaNoWriMo and AMOST3, you expect me to write 50,000 words in APRIL? You're crazy!"

No, actually, I don't! Do you guys know what the great thing about Camp NaNoWriMo is?

    Taken directly from the website:

Camp NaNoWriMo lets you set your own word-count goal.

Oh yes, you heard me. Only interested in a 10,000 word short story? Perfect! Feeling ambitious, like you might just reach 75k or 100k? That's perfect too! The lowest your word-count goal can be is 10,000 words.

And guess what? Camp NaNo isn't just for short stories and novels. Again, taken directly from the website:

Camp NaNoWriMo is open to all writing projects. Whether you want to write a novel, edit a close-to-final draft, or tackle a script, some short stories, or a nonfiction work, Camp NaNoWriMo welcomes any seed of inspiration.

You could even make your Camp NaNo project about lore articles or poetry or anything at all that strikes your fancy! I know a few of you have stories that you'd like to edit, that would absolutely count too.

The way Camp NaNoWriMo works, is that when you join, you get sorted into a writing group based on either age, genre or goals. Camp NaNoWriMo calls these "Cabins" and they can hold up to twelve people!

However! We can create our own private cabin (again with a max of 12) of any participants on the Vault. But don't worry, any NaNoWriMo support groups will probably go on here in the form of a discussion first.

For everyone here at Tamriel Tales, the goal isn't to out-write the other or try to complete their goal faster, it's to start a project and see it through to the end.

I just thought this would be a great way to get new and old members excited about writing together, supporting each other, and tackling a fun totally-customizable-project together!

    Camp NaNoWriMo

Anyone wanna go camping? Just let me know below! I can't wait for April to get here.

Don't worry, I'll bring enough stuff for S'mores.

    SOTEK:

As you all can see, at the moment we have thirteen fourteen Writers, Scribblers and Claw scratchers.

(Guess which catagery I am? Go on... guess?)

What I will do closer to the time is split the two groups down the middle as balanced as I can. I don't want all the heavy hitters and skilled writers in one group and leave the second group to fade behind. That being said, once I form the two groups, if there is someone you affiliate with more than others then let me know and I will swap you around.

There's still plenty of time for those of you who have yet to join in to, well... join in.

    Spotted Fawn:

    Hello Cabin-buddies!

    Some important additional information:

    Creating a private cabin

    1. If you’re acting as the cabin administrator, go to the Cabin Settings page and select “I want to create a private cabin.”

    2. Once in your cabin, you can invite your friends by typing their usernames into the invitation field. You can invite up to 11 Campers. A Camper must have created a profile, a novel, and deselected “I don’t want cabin invitations this session” to be eligible.

    Joining a private cabin

    • Selected “I don’t want to be included in a cabin” so you are not sorted into a random cabin,
    • Deselected the ”I don’t want cabin invitations this session” option.
    • When you are invited to a private cabin, that invitation will pop-up the next time you log in, or refresh the Camp NaNoWriMo page. “Join Now” will take you to your new cabin home; “No Thanks” will delete the invitation.

I was planning to have our own Vault Nano type event throughout May..... I'm willing to bring it forwards to April and make it an official Nano Camp event. Ok SF Lets do it.

Woohoo! I know you love a good campfire! This'll be a lot of fun. ^^
I imagine May might be a little bit busy for some of us college kids. Finals aren't fun, so April's a good month.

And I didn't mean to muddy any plans, sorry Sotek! xD I should have messaged you first.

Don't worry about it. I'm not interested in a power struggle for supremecy. You've done a great job putting this together. I applaude your initiative.

We'll have this discussion to see who would be interested then around a week before I'll form a second one for the actual event itself. Got a few ideas for it.

I might go for it, although I currently have no idea what to write. Maybe I'll continue on what I wrote for NaNoWriMo, which I didn't manage to finish and haven't touched since then, although that kinda feels like cheating a bit... But I take it Camp Nano is a more casual event in comparison?

Yep! Feel free to continue what you started back in NaNo. :) Camp NaNo is a much more relaxed event.

Camp Nano does state that you can edit a close to final draft, work on existing stories. Ect. If you haven't finished your story Loka then please feel free to join in.
