Thanks Teineeva,
You pretty much nailed the backstory, but I intend to leave it as is. It has always been my preference to have barebones backstories so that whoever plays my builds can fill in the details. I try to give just enough to set you in the right direction.
However, since you asked, I'll answer the questions in regards to my character's own personal backstory.
Tylin was an imperial legion battlemage who joined up 5 years before the events of Skyrim. She was more scholarly than warrior like, which led to her excelling in theoretical pursuits, but not being as skilled practically.
This was not a problem however, as she was stationed in southern Cyrodil, and would accompany officials on peaceful visits to Elswyr, Valenwood and Black Marsh. While these missions were uneventful, roughly two years before Alduin's return, she started to become ill.
She struggled on for a few months but was soon unfit for active duty and sent to the arcane university to train future battlemages. She did all she could to figure out what disease she had caught or to find a cure, but none came to her in all her searching.
She concluded that the only way she could survive would be to attain immortality, but objected to becoming a vampire or lich. It was during her research on lich's that she came across the dragon priest masks and Konahrik. Believing this to be a way she could save herself without losing her morality, she started to dig deeper, learning what she would need to do to attain the mask.
She learned that the wooden mask was possessed by the Synod, and used the majority of her wealth to hire a thief to acquire it for her. She entrusted the mask to one of her most trusted trainees, and sent him off ahead to Skyrim. Tylin used her remaining coin to pay for healers to do what they could to protect her body and pay for her own travel to Skyrim a few months later.

Also, please feel free to remove the 'Restored' banner at the end of the build--I put it there as a courtesy to let the reader know that the build has been worked on by somebody other than its original creator without his or her knowlege.
