Guides and Tips: What's Coming Next

  • March 22, 2016

Hey everyone. I wanted to start a discussion focusing on an even more universal focus area than builds, and to get people thinking and talking about them

Guides, or Tips, Tricks whatever you want to call them, are perhaps the single greatest tool for new members, and the only type of content that is available in each and every game. For instance, I couldn't make a Age of Empires build, but i could definitely write up a guide on how to play the Franks. So, I'd really love to see more guides, they don't have to be massive ones, or extremely complex ones, but still promoting and creating these Guides seems like it could be a huge step forward for the group.

Now, I realize that many other sites either focus on Guides, or simply have a tonne of them, but in my opinion each Guide is completely different. I might have one way of playing a certain character, that Bob from down the street likes, but then Joe from up the street, might have one that Bob likes even more. In other words, just because someone else has done a guide, doesn't mean that you can't do it differently.

So what type of guides would you be interested in writing? Roleplay Tips, Begginer's Guides, individual character guides or gameplay guides? The list is pretty much endless and I'd love to see what the people here could do with it.

Hmm, I might do some Beginner's guides, and maybe character guides at some point

Personally, I've got (belive it or not) a few things that I'd like to work on. First of all, I'd like to get a basic AoE:2 guide going to introduce new players to the strengths and weaknesses to each civilization in a bit more depth than the game. For instance, some of the naval civilizations such as the Vikings are an offensively oriented, while the Italians (another Naval Civ) is a slightly more economic based civ (which makes a damn lot of sense doesn't it.

Other then that I was definitely going to write up a Beginner's Guide for NWN, that explains all of the unique features of Classes (the Barbarian's Rage, etc.) and also a little class rating system, giving a score in terms of Power - Defense - Support, and obviously deciding the Cleric is the best Class.

Then there's a quick Path of Exile guide, that covers the first Arc really, describing some, if not all of the Socketed Abilities you can get early on, and what they're best at. Say, Heavy Blow being excellent for stun-locking some of the early melee bosses and Fireball being perfect for dealing with groups of enemies...Anyway, won't go too far into it right now, it's definitely further down the list but it is one I hope to finish by the time my first build is released, or at least the second part of it.

How about spoiler-free reviews? PC Gamer does those from time to time but not consistently (or I'm not good at finding them). Personally, I'd love to have information like this for new (and old) games

Hmm, that could be interesting... Though, there is the question about whether that would fit better within the Forums or the Group.

Huh, actually what if instead of it being a more general review (Though of course those would be included) what if the focus was on Build Potential, Depth of Lore (probably the hardest to keep spoiler free really), Gameplay and Roleplay Potential...If we twisted the normal Review Format to fit with the cores of the group I could definitely see it working.

Possibly the Persona series, or at least 3 and 4, since those are the only ones in the Persona series I've played extensivly

I believe Charlie was posting reviews in the gaming forum back in the days. I don't remember how much activity those generated but in the end they were moved to General Gaming

Fair enough, the difference in the GC and General Gaming is pretty big though.

Yeah, I don't see a problem at all with it, in fact it'd be awesome to see so I'd love to see them pop up again

I will probably create some content (a general guide to explain stuff like potatos and the dmg-system and later on maybe even a "build", if you can call it that) for Warframe, as it's the game I'm currently the most interested in. The only problem with this game is to get started and to gather augmentations. But hey, I think other games suffer the same problem. At least I hope so ;).
