So, I have to say that the series is probably the third most common series here, we've got, I believe 5 builds (Three by Gollum, two by Prisoner) and other than Dragon Age and KotOR it seems to be the most popular to discuss. Now I'm not really a huge Dark Souls fan, I own all the games, even pre-ordered 2 because I was enjoying the first game before it came out but I haven't finished any of them, let alone played around with them that much.
So I'm not the best person to discuss it with, but I am really interested in how the game functions, so I've devised a list, to not only discuss how we all play the games, but also to compile some Building Tips to share with everyone.
What type of Character do you play?
Is Roleplaying viable?
Do you build play based more on Roleplay or Gameplay?
What style of Combat is most efficient in your opinion?
What's your favorite game in the series?
Do you prefer PvP or PvE?
What are some tips to first time players?

Roleplaying is somewhat viable, I like a mix, and I tend to mix and match. Don't really have a favorite, though Bloodborne would be up there. Also, I like PvE since I am apparenty not OP enough.
Do not trust anyone, except Sunbro, Solaire

While I can't answer too in depth, I can give a basic quick one based on maybe 20 hours of gameplay between Souls and Bloodborne
What type of Character do you play?
I definitely prefer a faster character, dodging feels much, much safer than blocking when I get upto the larger enemies and I'm terrified of trying to play a Tank. I've never given a Ranged Character a go and that's going to be what I try out if I ever go back to the game.
Is Roleplaying viable?
Honestly I doubt it from what little I've played. Maybe simple quick stuff but to me it seems like a very Gameplay oriented game, with very little room for actually Roleplaying to the extent of Skyrim or DA
Do you build play based more on Roleplay or Gameplay?
Don't build yet but I assume Gameplay
What's your favorite game in the series?
Well, Bloodborne has a cane-sword-whip thing...So really I don't think it's a contest. I have sunk the most hours into Dark Souls 1 though so I suppose that'd be my favorite.
Do you prefer PvP or PvE?
I'll just straight up say PvE, I hate Multiplayer in most games and I doubt Dark Souls will be an exception.

Multiplayer can be good or bad. You can helpful players who wish to lend a helping hand, players who like to joke around with, and then their are dicks who will invade you, and ram their weapons up your ass faster than you can pray

Hmm, I'll take your word from it, my first look into the game makes it seem like maximizing stats and items is the most important aspect of the game, which in my mind doesn't really leave much room for Roleplaying. I mean I suppose you could emulate a certain character like Gollum tends to do, but there isn't a massive range of viable weapon and armour combos is there? You have a couple sets that are good for each style and that's pretty much what you end up with

I'm much more of a play the game myself kind of person, I suppose I could ask for help, but from experience I'd assume 80% of people are just trolling me when offering suggestions. And the PvP element makes it much less interesting for me.

Well I started up playing Dark Souls 1 again after a long time, and I have to say it seems less frustrating than I remember. Maybe that's just my focus that's talking but it definitely seems more enjoyable.
So far I've been running a primarily Archer build that's actually been fun, it's rather simple and slower but power and safety of a Bow so far is pretty awesome, it's what let me beat the Asylum Demon rather quickly without taking many blows (Shoot, roll around, shoot, etc.) So after I figure out some of the stat stuff I might actually post a Ranged Build here.

What type of Character do you play?
Usually sorcery mages or sword and shield characters in the Dark Souls series. In Bloodborne I've played a quality build and an arcane build, with arcane being more fun for me.
Is Roleplaying viable?
Yes.
Do you build play based more on Roleplay or Gameplay?
Gameplay.
What style of Combat is most efficient in your opinion?
Melee, physical damage.
What's your favorite game in the series?
I might get hate, but I have to go with DS2 (the most mechanically sound out of all of them, except maybe Demon's Souls, but I've never played it so I wouldn't know).
Do you prefer PvP or PvE?
PvP.
What are some tips to first time players?
Don't be a mage on your first playthrough.
Git gud
