Welcome everypony, to my second Fallout 4 build. Inspired by my love of, and not so perfect track record of, stealth games, I wanted to do a sort of government secret agent in Post Apocalyptic times. Taking cues from Sam Fisher, Solid Snake, with a bit of Naked/Venom Snake, I have made one of the most fun playthroughs I’ve had in F04.  WIth that, welcome to.....

    Shadowy Reading Music

Born and raised in Boston, the man that would become the Shadow Operative joined the military when he came of age. He fought during the Resource Wars, as a member of the Green Berets. It was during this point that he met Nora, or Alice as she preferred to be called, and they married. Some time after, his old commanding officer enlisted him in an tactical espionage initiative known as PHANTOM Cell. They would spy, assassinate, do anything necessary to protect American freedom from the shadows. He trained in gunplay, martial arts, persuasion, and other skills. He had a child, Shaun, and all was well, until the nukes rained on America, and his child was stolen. Now he’s out for blood, and to reclaim his son.....

    GAMEPLAY

From Vault 111, you’ll want to grab some leather armor, as well as Road Leathers. Alongside that, you’ll want to grab some Welding Goggles. As soon as possible, you’ll want to upgrade your leather armor, and make it Shadowed, as well as Pocketed. Though, for the left leg, I kept it Muffled, which decreases the sound you make when moving. Later on, when possible, grab a set of combat armor, minus the helmet. Make each part Shadowed, and Deep Pocketed.

With Lone Wanderer, and all my Deep Pocketed mods, sans Buffout, its derivates, or Grilled Ragstag, my total carry weight, by level 60, was about 400.

Now, onto Followers, the only ones I kept with me for long, aside from Dogmeat, were Nick Valentine, and Deacon. Oh, and MacCready, though only until I finished his Companion Quest. My original base was the classic Red Rocket Gas Station. My little crew consisted of Preston (Second-in-Command), Piper (Intelligence Gatherer), Deacon (Fellow intelligence gatherer/tech aid), MacCready (Underworld Connection/Merc), and Nick (Tech Specialist), as well as X6-88 (Head of Tactical Operations).

After awhile, and a bug where I could no longer take Preston, I moved my base to Spectacle Island. Alongside this, I went to the fairly hidden Yangtze submarine off the eastern coast of Boston, and did that quest so I could have the change to have small payload nukes launched at my foes. I helped out the Brotherhood for a bit, killing Paladin Brandis (Who apparently has a second model that appears on the Prdywen), for the Brotherhood Officer Uniform.  When I got up to the Prdywen, I decided to kill Maxson for his badass Battlecoat, after badmouthing the BoS to gain some approval from Deacon.

Your  main weapons, before you grab Deliverer, which I renamed The Operator, should be a Suppressed 10mm pistol, whether you add one to a found/bought pistol, or find a suppressed one as loot, and a combat knife, preferably one with a serrated blade.

Combat will, if you hadn’t already be figured out, mainly be fought from the shadows. Let’s say you’re in, Andrews Station, right? You’re doing Nick’s personal quest, and you follow him down the steps. You see two rails, with three raiders, and a turret. If possible, try and avoid enemies, to conserve ammo, and reduce the chance of a fight breaking out if you don’t kill them quickly. Sneak attack the turret first, then the raiders. If need be, chuck grenades and lay mines out. If the status changes from Hidden or Caution to Danger, stand and start shooting/slicing your way through. Your non-automatic assault rifle will be your friend.

If you don’t like the look of the BOS Officer outfit, a Harness, Army Fatigues, or preferably a Gunner Harness work as well, which I often used in the southern point of the map at times.

Now, coupled with Deacon’s max affinity perk, Cloak and Dagger, alongside Ninja, Gunslinger/Big Leagues/Rifleman, Lone Wanderer, Mister Sandman, Blitz, and Gun-Fu, sneak attacks become even MORE broken than in previous Bethesda titles. I may not be the best at math, but the multipliers are insane. Granted, I rarely play above Normal, unless I’m farming for legendaries, but still, you can deal ludicrous amounts of damage in a short amount of time. It can get to a point where you, at least, TWO SHOT a Deathclaw or an Assaultron!

Now, be careful of non floor traps, and mines. While you can’t activate mines with higher ranks of Sneak, enemies can still shoot them. As for non floor traps, such as pressure triggers, be on the lookout for them, and deactivate them and whatever trap was nearby, for some crafting parts, and a bit of XP.

Try and make note of who or what your enemies are. Named enemies tend to be a bit tougher than your average mook. Usually, they might have better gear than their minions, even Power Armor at times. Try and take them out first.

Aside from Buffout, and the small selection of derivates, like Psychobuff, no chems were used. These, in conjunction with Grilled Ragstag, were used to bump up my carry weight so I could grab just a smidge more loot.

What was a fun thing to do, oddly enough, is to contract the Mole Rat disease in Vault 81. If you can, use this glitch to cure yourself as well as Austin. I chose to not do this, as it added a bit more challenge, and because I didn’t want Nick to hate me. I felt the character would, more often than not, put the needs of others above his own. Plus, the reduced ten health, while minor at end game, still makes you think a bit more carefully.

Now, for Speech Checks, try and do them as often as possible, for an increased reward, alternative situations, or get more info. I bumped up my Charisma with a Formal Hat/Pompadour, Clean Black Suit/Lorenzo’s Suit, and a pair of Fashionable Sunglasses.

If you use a maneuver I like to call the Snap Attack, where you exit VATS just after you shoot, it’ll allow you to snap your crosshairs on another foe and quickly dispatch them with a bullet.

Lay down mines if you see an enemy coming. If possible, temporarily slow enemies with a quick Cryo Grenade or Mine. Pulse Grenades/Mines, interestingly enough, work on organics as well as robotic enemies.

If possible, if there are turrets or spotlights in an area, try and find the terminal for them. Deactivate those pesky obstacles to make your life a bit easier.

    BASE OF OPERATIONS

As stated earlier, our final home away from home will be Spectacle Island. After clearing it off all Mirelurks, and restoring power, you can build here. Not only is it fairly isolated from the mainland, it has quite a bit of raw material, and space to build. Now, with all the various bits and bobs I collected over my adventures, as you, dear reader, probably have, you should take what your maximum carry weight is, fast travel, and deposit it. Give some to Dogmeat to carry as well, and unload his stuff as well.

I chose to separate my base in sections, connected by walkways. For instance, the center platform was the command center/character home. Then, on each of the four/five platform, I had a medical facility, a commissary with stores, soldier barracks, etc. Granted, this is what I did. You can make as many platforms as you wish. You can build a lading pad for your vertibird.

Whenever I was on here, I either wore my BOS Officer Uniform, Dirty Army Fatigues, Dirty Trenchcoat, Courser Uniform,  or Maxson’s Battlecoat. Your soldiers should wear either Army Fatigues, BOS Uniforms (Even if they do look quite gaundy), or Military Fatigues. Your higher ups, like Preston, should have Military Caps or some headwear to show rank.

My endgame gear, aside from Maxson’s Battlecoat/Dirty Trenchcoat+Patrolman Sunglasses were Welding Goggles, BOS Officer Outfit, PHANTOM Cell Cuirass  ( Deep Pocketed Shadowed Combat Armor Chest), PHANTOM Cell Left Leg (Muffled Shadowed Combat Armor Left Leg), PHANTOM Cell Right Arm (Black Ops Right arm from Bunker Hill), PHANTOM Cell Right Leg (Deep Pocketed Shadowed Combat Armor Right Leg), and PHANTOM Cell  Left Arm (Deep Pocketed Shadowed Combat Armor Left Arm)

*For Far Harbor users, the Marine Wetsuit, gained from either the Better Left Forgotten main quest, or from the upper trader in The Nucleus.

    FACTIONS

Brotherhood of Steel-If you choose to NOT kill Maxson, then this group, with the leader being a descendent of an Old World U.S. soldier, and their militaristic nature is quite nice. Plus, the Prdywen is a pretty sweet place to stay, even if you can’t build stuff up there, you have all crafing stations needed.

Railroad-Primarily for gaining Deacon, and Deliverer, the covert missions inside the Institute also makes sense for this build. Plus, the Railroad HQ is one of the few “interior” areas you can fast travel from. That, and a certain mission aboard the Prdywen can either go persuasion and stealth, with you bluffing your way to your objective, or guns blazing, where you can get the armors of Teagan, the recolored Brotherhood Fatigues worn by the medical officer, and, of course, Maxson’s laser rifle/pistol, and his sick Battlecoat.

The Institute-The way I played the character was that he puts the good of the many above the good of the one. The Institute’s advanced technology can not only upgrade his equipment, but it also grants us X6-88, a freaking Courser companion, and I just like the overall look of the place. Note, you’ll have to kill Deacon to complete the questline.

While the Minutemen were my original choice for the build, being the only faction I hadn’t finished the questline for, their general lack of organization, with few recognizing your authority, didn’t fit the build.

All in all, I basically played with the Factions, helping one while also helping an opposing one.

    Weapons

    The Operator

    Fallout-4_201511081051111.jpg

This awesome little pistol is perfect for stealthy characters. Not only is the base damage boosted to a pretty sweet 97 damage, but it has an improved hit chance in VATS, uses 25% less AP, but it is a beast with sneak damage and perks. I renamed it the Operator.

    Pickman’s Blade

    maxresdefault (9).jpg

Pickman’s Blade, this sweet little combat knife can either be found by saving Pickman in Pickman’s Gallery, or finding the painting on the first floor, and picking the Master lock safe. This is a replacement if you can’t find the Irradiated Combat Knife I found while adventuring. It has a pretty quick swing speed, decent base damage, awesome sneak attack damage with perks, and adds 25 points of bleed damage. Stealth Blade increases the damage even more during sneak attacks.

    The P.I.T.A.R

    600px-Fallout4ScreenshotCompensatedAutomaticAssaultRifle.jpg

The PHANTOM Interchangable Tactical Assault Rifle, or P.I.T.A.R for short, was my weapon for when I felt like switching it up a bit. With a Long Recon Scope, silencer, and other upgrades, I had amazing recoil, pretty sweet damage in the late 90’s, good reload time, and an awesome looking rifle.

    Kellog’s Pistol

    fallout4_guide_kelloggs.jpg

Yes people, I can sense the irony in using the pistol of the man who
gunned down Nate/Nora and stole Shaun
, but the gun does some nice damage. The ammo for it is fairly common. It was primarily used as a backup for when things went south.

    Stun Baton

    maxresdefault (10).jpg

If you want to play pseudo-non lethally, then this is the weapon for you. It does decent, almost 40 base damage, plus shock damage. Alongside that, you’ll also have the chance to stun opponents.

    Roleplay

    • Alternate your dialogue between sarcastic, professional, with the occasional threat now and again.

    • Don’t go on random murder sprees.

    • Try and talk your way out of a situation, if applicable, before you go in guns blazing.

    • Talk to your companions every one in a while, to boost morale.

    • Keep a pack of cigarettes on you at all times.

    Thanks

Thanks to David Okine for the awesome Perk Spread. Thanks to Heroic for the build video. Thanks to Hideo Kojima and Tom Clancy/Ubisoft for Metal Gear Solid and Splinter Cell respectively. Also, even though I don´t yet have access to mods, the West Tek Tactical Optics mod is quite good

cool vibe on this one chris...pretty nice.

a couple of quick fixes - the end this paragraph looks like it got cut off...

"Your  main weapons, before you grab Deliverer, which I renamed The Operator, should be a Suppressed 10mm pistol, whether you add one to a found/bought pistol, or find a suppressed one as loot, and a combat knife, preferably one with"

I wish the first pic wasn't blurry :(

You should try it out dude

Nice build! One question : do you have enough AP for long battles ? I rather invest in Grim Reaper and luck, but I understand your need to build a big base of operation!
