    King of the Commonwealth

    Full Name:  Karzak

Alias/s: Test Subject 23, Overlord, King

    Species: Deathclaw - Mortem ungues

    Sex: Male

Age: Unknown, but he seems to be quite aged

    Karma: Neutral

    Appearance

    Height: 3.06m

    Weight: 163kgs

Skin Tone: {Scales} A dull brown with black spots here and there, multiple scars across chest and back from would-be hunters and prey. Along his back he has long, dark spines and armor plating, with similar protrusions on his arms and legs.

Head Adornments: Two long horns, pointing out and then forward, both scratched heavily and the left being slightly longer.

Eyes: Pale and plagued by cataracts. Karzak is 85% blind and relies on scent and hearing to get around.

Build: Muscled, fit and a walking killing machine

    Known Inventory:

    • A single red bandana tied around his upper left arm
    • Broken shackles on his ankles, a chain link or two still attached

    Background

Notable Skills: Karzak is highly intelligent and is capable of deciphering difficult problems with ease and is also quite proficient at computers and repairing items, despite having long claws and extremely bad eyesight. And speaking of those bad boys, it is no surprise that he is also quite successful at slaughtering potential prey with supreme unarmed talent. The most impressive of his abilities, however, is his ability to speak.

Place of Birth: Unknown Institute location

    Current Residence: The Glowing Sea

    Religion: Atheist

    Political Stance: None whatsoever

Occupation: Alpha male of the Stormcrasher Clan

Favourite Meal: If it moves, it can be eaten (though rumour has it he ate a synth once too).

Interests: Sharpening his claws, examining old machinery, hunting, wandering the Wastes and stalking unaware caravans.

Personality: Quiet and brooding, Karzak is one of the last intelligent deathclaws to walk the Wastes and he knows it. Arrogant and distant, he is often seen to be on edge and ready to strike at the first time of trouble. He’s proud, rightly so, and cares for only those in his family. Like all Deathclaws, he has the innate desire to hunt and kill any humans or animals that come close to his territory, however, he is able to surpass this urge and remain somewhat non hostile to those who come close.

Flaws: Because he is so quiet, it often hard to tell what Karzak is thinking about, which makes him extremely dangerous. He often doesn’t show emotions either and can change his mind very quickly. If his family or those in his clan are harmed, he will rampage and destroy anyone who gets in his way.

Relationships: His clan, for which he is the alpha of, has over thirty members. While none of them are intelligent like he is, they are still family to the Deathclaw. His mate is a mother Deathclaw dubbed Maji and he has sired many children from her.

    Backstory

Many years ago, the Institute captured the two last remaining intelligent deathclaws after the massacre of Vault 13 - Goris and Xar. These two were killed and dissected, the Institute seeking to find the secret to why the intelligent Deathclaws did not obey their original Enclave masters. With the FEV plague in hand, they set out to breed a perfect specimen - The ultimate killing machine capable of thought, speech and strategy. The result of that was Karzak.

He was born from a normal mother and had three siblings, all who which died to his hand and cannibalized. Impressed, the Institute rewarded his murderous rampage with human children as treats and he understood - Killing was his goal and he obeyed willingly. As he grew, he was accelerating at twice the speed of a normal deathclaw and began to speak when he barely a month old. Two months, he could form sentences. By six months, he was the size of his mother and killed her in an effort to prove his own strength.

Karzak enjoyed his life - He had a home, got free food and was treated well by the humans. However, he still felt distant and very alone. His needs were being met, yes… But did he want to live under the rule of humans? He expressed his dislike and called to be set free to wander the lands he had never seen. In return, those who bred him ordered security to attack, forcing him to back away and he was subdued, before being chained into a small room with no lights, windows or even room for the hulking beast to move. His eyes had been chemically treated and to his frustration and rage, they had been severly damaged and were incapable of seeing nearly nothing. Once a week, a radroach was lowered in for him to eat and his only company was a soothing sound from speakers…

“You belong to us. Kill those we tell you to kill. Bring back those we wish to keep. You are OURS.”

Was it weeks, months or years he was kept in that cell? He had no idea and Karzak’s patience and sanity was wearing thin. He was fully-grown and the metal box he occupied was not fit to be his home. Day in and day out he heard that voice, and it drove him mad! He struggled and called, bellowed and smashed, begging to be released. He could feel his muscles straining and then… His chains snapped.

His escape was a blur and all he knew was that his claws tasted his master’s blood as he slaughtered the facility he was kept in. It was difficult and he gained many wounds from the Institute’s guards but he was alive.

Freedom. What a glorious term it was and Karzak had it all. He wandered, meeting with others of his kind and seeking their company. None spoke like him but they were family all the less. Chased off by alpha males and hunted by humans the further he travelled, it soon occurred to the Deathclaw that he need his own pack to adopt into. He stalked his way into the Commonwealth and found the Glowing Sea, along with it’s small Deathclaw clan. The alpha was old and worn out by the time Karzak found him, and he had no trouble slaughtering the male and taking is place.

It has been fifteen years since those times and Karzak remains alpha of the clan, ruling with an iron fist and keeping to himself. As he has aged, many would-be Hunters have sought his hide and have attempted to kill him. All have failed.

“Start running… It’ll make the chase more interesting.”

Thanks! It's funny you say that about a blog because I am working on one with my good friend Fights and already released the prologue! Look it upon my profile (TOC Of Chaos and War) or in the Wasteland Tales group :)
