Zakary the Unknown: In Riften

  • "I'm really getting tired of your excuses. When you borrowed the money, you said you'd..." The woman stopped talking to the redguard and stared at me. I looked back at her as I crossed one of Riften's many bridges. Anya walked in front of me. She had said she had business in Riften, which was lucky because so did I. She walked into the market place and talked to a Nord male. I walked towards the orphanage and slowly opened the door. "You can't adopt any children!" an old woman screamed before pushing me out of the door and onto the floor. I got up, brushed the dust from my clothes and walked back to Anya. I would return to the orphanage later that night. My eyes shot open. A dark figure was leaning over me. A hand was over my mouth. "I'm sorry." the figure whispered. Then it all went black. When I came to I was tied to a tree. I was on a small island. I turned my head as much as I could and saw the figure tying a boat to a rock so that it wouldn't float away. "You're awake then." the shape said. It sounded like a woman. She walked towards me. "Did you think that after all this time you could just waltz in here like nothing had happened with another woman? After what I've been through did you think I would let you go about your own business in peace? After you abandoned me here without even a proper goodbye," she pulled a note from her pocket. ""My dearest Sapphire, I'm leaving." How did you think I would react to that? Because of you I lost most of my money and had to join the thieves guild. I had to create a new life for myself. People here think I'm some girl that got raped by bandits," She rushed forwards, her sweet scent filling the air. "Divines, I've missed you!" she said before kissing me. When she finally stepped back she lowered her hood and the light shone in her face. It was the woman from the bridge. "Where have you been all this time?" she asked, half begging. I thought about it for a while. Could I trust her? Apparently I had known her. Then again she could be lying. In the end I decided to tell her the truth, just not all of it. "I've been travelling." I answered. "Why did you leave me here?" I sighed. "I can't remember. I can't remember anything. I woke up several weeks ago in a carriage held prisoner, about to be executed for reasons I still don't fully know! Then a bleeding dragon falls out of the sky and starts killing everyone! I don't even know my name! Anya can't understand what I'm going through! And everywhere I go people look at me as if I'm some sort of an idiot because I need even the most common knowledge to be explained to me! I don't know who you are or if you meant anything to the old me, the me that died months ago! I don't know who he was and recently I'm not so sure if I want to! I'm sorry if I hurt you in any way! But don't go asking me things I don't have answers for!" I only then realised I had been yelling. The woman smiled slightly. "A good friend once told me: we are our memories, without them we equal nothing. "He kept saying how his past decisions haunted him. He preferred to erase himself than face what he had done." she said. "What kind of an idiot would willingly do such a thing to himself?" "You. Or at least I'm assuming you did after all you were always unhappy of your past. I can't tell you anything about your past because you didn't tell me, but I can help you find out." She disappeared behind the tree and untied me. When I was free she ran forwards and embraced me. I hesitated for a second then hugged her too. Finally I had found something out about my past, and it didn't seem so bad. [As always any feedback is appreciated]
