According to the book Breathing Water, Alteration spells in general are super complicated and hard.

You're trying to get the Earthbones to break in your favor. Of course it's complicated and hard.

I was thinking about mantling and I was wondering if the race of an individual mantling another individual would be affected by race. Since mantling requires one to be so similar to the mantlee that they become said mantlee, would an Orc be able to mantle Tiber Septim, despite being another race entirely?

Take Sheogorath for example. The Champion of Cyrodiil mantled Shegorath during Oblivion Crisis and he/she became the same grey haired Breton with Irish/Welsh accent. Mantling is...walking in someone steps until you become that someone. I think that race doesn't play a role.

I thought that Jyggalag simply gifted the CoC his title and then buggered off to Divines know where?

One does not simply give a Godhood. CoC mantled Sheogorath, through the series of quests. Walking in the steps of Sheogorath until CoC became Sheogorath.

Does Clavicus Vile only make deals that turn out badly, like giving Sebastian the Rueful Axe to cure his daughter's lycanthropy? Would he be willing to help a person out in exchange for their child's ability to cast spells?

It would most likely end up with the child being born under Atronach, not being able to cast spells but it would need spells being casted at the child so it could survive or something. Magicka Vampire. Something like that.

There´s always a catch with Clavicus. He´ll always try to screw you over. If you want to deal with Clavicus make sure your bargain is absolutely bulletproof. You have to outwit the Daedric Prince of Bargains. So far, the only thing that seems to work on Clavicus is when he wants something from you, that´s your best chance to actually come out on top.

Hey everyone, I have a lore question.  I am researching a build surrounding Savos Aren's five friends that fell in Labyrythian.  When I check them in the UESP Wiki, they all appear as Combat Sorcerers.  When I further follow that path in the wiki, a Combat Sorcerer uses the following skills:

    Destruction, Illusion, Restoration

    One Handed and Heavy Armor

So my initial picture is a Battlemage such as Jagar Tharn.  But the fact that they are all appearing in basic Mage College robes and hoods in the game throw me off of that path.

So, from a lore perspective are there any more information on Savos' friends that could help me pinpoint some more thoughts in fleshing them out as characters in a build?  Since Heavy Armor and One Handed weapons are specifically stated in the Wiki, how much leeway would I have to make them more of a staff wielder and robe wearer if I chose that route?

For your reference, here is the Wiki link to the first character, Girduin.  The remaining four characters are all linkable to that page.  You will note that all five appear classified as Combat Sorcerer.  Here is the link to that descriptive page: CombatSorcerer

It is easier to click on the link in the Girduin page to go right to it but wanted to provide all my reference tools.

Thanks for any help.  I don't want to go too off base here to be true to the characters but Lissette had some good insight and an argument that made sense against wearing Heavy Armor.  So I thought I'd bring it to the pros.

The way I see it this isn't exactly Lore but gameplay. If I were in your place I would make every single NPC unique, give them different skills. I wouldn't really bother myself with what Bethesda made them if I want them to be something else. Plus, they appear in game, not in books. Which means that their Lore is pretty much nonexistent. Don't overthink this, mate. Just make them what you want them to be.
