Workshop Commenting Event

  • August 1, 2017

Man what a cool first day. Phil's got the lead at the moment, nah sorry he's tied with me at 6 points but he's done it through sheer commenting power not posting a Tip at a good time. Relycs is coming in third with three points and, well other than Sotek that is currently it (and Sotek would be destroying us with 30 points if it weren't for the fact that he wanted to step out.

Looking really good so far guys, thanks for the participation so far and I can't wait to see what we start to get done you know...a week, two weeks, at the end of the event if that's what we're doing already

I dont know if it that's still a thing but the winner could possibly get a site achievement symbol, as this is in fact an event.

And why is the resolution of everything I upload (pics) so bad? Do I have to upload it to an album first and then use the pic directly from the album or what?

Umm, that's how I tend to deal with pics, but I've been having some issues lately with it anyway if I adjust the size too much, I've found that it tends to really reduce the quality of my images.

Eh, I'd like to apologize quickly. I forgot that comments were worth 2 points in this Event (you'd think I'd remember stuff that I decided on but nope :P) so really Phil's on 12 points, Relycs is on 8 and I'm coming in last with 7 points at the moment.

So I'll be out for a decent chunk of the day now, but I figure that this is the best time to unveil the first QTE, yeah a quick time event alright, hah. Essentially these are just short (1 day as a maximum time limit) periods of time where you can get extra points for various activities. Today's is really simple, is the 2 for 6 event. Where for the next 6 hours, all comments with me worth two times as many points (4) they are now.

So, yeah, each comment will get you four points for the next six hours (which is very funnily the exact period I'll be away for). As a note, these will be happening fairly frequently at very different times, so that everyone has the chance to participate. Just because you might miss this one because of time zones doesn't mean you'll miss them all.

Anyway, that's all. Attack my minions, comment away.

This event has inspired me to pull my finger out and post something in the workshop. I have a couple projects I've been sat on for a while, I think it might fially be time to finish Red Wife of Dagon as a build. It's a completed playthrough, so I'll see if I can put it all together in build format over the next few days.

Awesome Phil, I am really eager to see that Red Wife of Dagon build, especially if it's anything like the Modder's Log that you started way back (and you know...involves the Red Wives). Kind of fitting too since the Lore Article for them came through here too :D

Huh, just realized that I haven't posted a single update today. Well, not a lot has changed. Sotek is still crusing ahead at 50 points, followed by yours truly at 36.

But the people that are participating has Wulf at 16, Relycs as 14 and Phil at 12, a close enough match that any of them can pull ahead at any time with a few comments (hint hint :P) but nothing too insane. So far we've had 20 large comments (point recieving comments really), 4 posted builds, poems or short stories, 8 pieces of work for other types of content and 4 pieces of completed content. It's day three of the bloody Event, day three and that's where we're at already.

As another note, what does everyone think about the idea of expanding comments to include comments on the finished products? I feel like there could be a bit more done to really emphasize keeping trac of content and supporting each other even after it's out of the Workshop but that might also just be a bit much. I was thinking 1 point for a like or comment on any completed WiP?

Dunno, it's hard for me to say whether that's a good idea.

What.. Until now I didn't even know I'm participating..

Imo, if the comment is constructive enough to possibly make the build better, then it deserves the point.

On the other side, an event dedicated to comments and small works like art, a better backstory etc on finished builds in the building group could possibly dig up forgotten/overseen ones  and show more people how to do better and improve as a builder.  Think of it like an active buddy system where you can earn points for helping people while bringing their works up through likes and comments. Idk but this could possibly be a monthly thing and would defo help polishing those less good builds (if the builder doesn't want to improve his content to the point where its out of the first rank then it should be free for a deathmatch).

Completed Wips could quite easily vanish as they are moved around the site to their groups. For the event I would keep it to a workshop thing. once a piece is done, it moves out of the way, allowing a new piece to get attention. I feel we need to focus for this event on the content running in the workshop. Not for content waiting to move. They will get the attention from their own groups.

This bear in mind, is my opinion for the event. Not a overall stratagy.
