Oblivion Faction Profile: Heartlands Trading Company

So here we have a factions profile for the TES classics group. Karver and I have worked collaboratively on bringing this faction to the group for all of you lovely classisists.

    Title.png

The Heartlands Trading Company is a business company based in the Heartlands, in Cyrodiil. They are a rival to the East Empire Trading Company, who operate by naval trade routes; in contrast, the Heartlands Trading Company operate purely through land trade routes and are thus based in Cyrodiil, which borders all provinces bar High Rock.

    Organization.png

The HTC was created with one simple goal. To rival the East Empire Trading Company. The EETC´s main profit is obtained through the exportation of goods from other provinces, but only a small percentage of those goods are actually distributed throughout Cyrodiil.

That´s why the HTC was created. To import more goods from other provinces to Cyrodiil, by land. But to get their own share of the profit from this transportation of goods, the Company has to grow first, take over Cyrodiil's economy and become the most prominent trading company in the Empire.

Strangely, the Company has close ties to the Resolution of Zenithar, and so many priests are members of the HTC, so as to earn money for their god and temple. The presence of priests also increased the public opinion of the company, as the priests would gather crops and heal people.

“Life is money, money is life.” That´s one of the main mottos of the Company, because one cannot have one without the other. If you work hard and follow your orders, then you´ll have money and a very prosperous life. Those who are not willing to work hard...their life won´t be that fulfilling, for money is life (but certain people may find a way around this..)

And as with all organizations, there is a corruption. There are rumors of extortion, intimidation, drug dealing and even murder. But those are surely only rumors...

Favoured skills are the skills recommended to be possessed by people in that specific specialization. You must possess at least 2 of the favoured skills to be able to be of that specialization, and your third specialization skill must be related to one of the others. For example, destruction could be replaced by conjuration, but it could not be replaced by sneak.

Artificer - Enchanters, alchemist and archeologists. They supply the Company with enchanted wares, various potions and handle the excavation of various ruins, looking for precious artifacts to sell.

    Favoured Skills: Destruction, Alteration, Mysticism

    Favoured Attribute: Willpower

Priest of Zenithar - Zenithar is the god of trade, so the company keeps a few of this order´s members around. And they don´t have to be priests neccesarily, but paladins and knights too. They mostly handle the healing of peasants, the gathering of crops and, of course, blessings, but they are also the ones who the Company sends to clear dangerous ruins of ghosts, necromancers and daedra.

    Favoured Skills: Restoration, Conjuration, Blunt

    Favoured Attribute: Intelligence

Guard - They are the muscle of the Company, transporting goods, keeping the roads safe and clearing out any places that could potentially be bad for business.

Favoured Skills: Heavy Armor, Block, Blade

    Favoured Attribute: Endurance

Ambassador - Ambassadors are the silver-tongues of the Company, making the deals, often looking for new opportunities for the Company, as well as collecting rare items from various shops.

    Favoured Skills: Speechcraft, Mercantile, Illusion

    Favoured Attribute: Personality

Agent - Agents are the most secretive band of the Company, gathering information, infiltrating rival factions, gathering supplies and sometimes performing even more shady deeds.

    Favoured Skills: Sneak, Marksman, Security

    Favoured Attribute: Agility

    Reputation.png

There is a sliding scale for reputation, ranging from -50 to 50.

At 50 reputation, you are a paragon of honesty.

Between 25 and 49 reputation, you are honest.

Between -24 and 24 reputation, you are neutral.

Between -25 and -49 reputation, you are dishonest.

At -50 reputation, you are corrupt.

For every 10 reputation points above zero you are, you earn 3 more septims for each job and are more respected. A higher respect from others means that newer agents will look up to you. The requirements for advancing in rank will also be reduced by 5 septims for every 10 points of positive reputation you have.

For every 10 reputation points below zero you are, you earn more septims for each job but are less respected. This means that the requirements for advancing in rank are increased by 20 septims for every 10 points of negative reputation you have. This means that one should strive to maintain a balance.

The extra 40 septims required per 10 points to advance in rank must be given as a bribe to the guildmaster in order to advance in rank. Similarly, a favour must be done for the honest guildmaster alongside this to advance. (Note, a favour and not a mission. This favour could be anything, even a task nearly impossible for your specialization. No rewards are received for this favor)

Reputation is earned by completing missions; the amount rewarded depends on the type of mission completed. As a rule of thumb, completing honest missions earns you 3 points of Reputation, while corrupt missions will decrease your reputation by 4 points. However, reputation gains from missions can vary.

    BribesAndDonations.png

Septims can be given to either guildmaster in the form of Donations. These donations will increase your reputation and, with enough money, allow the guildmasters to buy a new branch for the organization. Reputation is increased by 5 for every 25 septims given. However, there is a slight negative side to making donations to the company, this being that the septims donated must be earned back to be eligible for a rank-up.

Septims can be given to the corrupt guildmaster, and when given alongside a motive, will be taken as a bribe which will decrease your reputation by 5 for every 25 septims given.

Contracts will be assigned at random times, and will be available in any of the areas in which the Guild has a branch. Contracts can be exterior, or can be supplied by the guild itself. It will be marked in the contract whether it is exterior or guild-supplied. Exterior contracts will have a quarter of the septims deducted upon completion and added to the guild funds. Guild supplied contracts will not have any deducted for the guild funds.

When contracts are posted, they will usually be posted in sets, and will be accompanied by a comment directing all members to look to the noticeboard for new contract. Each contract will be listed alongside its monetary reward, its reputational value, its specialization, and whether it is supplied by the guild or by an exterior source.

Each set of contracts will be removed and become unable to complete once each contract in that set has been completed at least once. You cannot turn contracts after they expire.

In order to take over the economy of Cyrodiil, the company must expand and buy shops throughout each of the major cities in Cyrodiil. The company begins with a small tent within the Kvatch refugee camp, as it is free. Furthermore, the refugees would be willing to pay a great deal of money, for they need the HTC's goods so badly.

I was little worried that someone will take us the privilege of posting the first Classics Faction. But we´re the first.

Also, great job on the faction you two. You've managed to include a religious aspect, options for a variety of alignments and a variety of classes without any of it seeming forced :)

Karver, Kael, this looks really nice. But dammit you tickled my oblivion bone, now it won't go quiet for at least another month, unless I play of course... Ah let's say it's up for consideration.

  • October 23, 2015

Sorry, we were both away for the evening.

@Jason and Coolerthanyou, you are accepted. I will add you in a sec.

@Teineeva Be sure to consider it, cause while me and Kael didn´t put much tought to the history and such of the HTC, I think we´ve managed to create really interesting roleplaying system with all the corrupt and honest jobs, ranks and advancements, reputation and other things. Tough truth to be told, I understand only half of it, it´s all Kael´s work.

You're too humble, man. You always give me all the credit and this has got to stop! You came up with the idea for the company and all, the specializations aspect and the potential for corruption.

I'll be posting the first set of contracts (five of them) tomorrow, sometime around noon. This will be a one-off occasion, I won't usually announce when I'll be posting them, nor will Karver. Keep your eyes peeled, and take the contracts as soon as they come!

  • October 23, 2015

Also, one important thing. We won´t prevent you from doing major questlines, on the contrary, some contracts might be tied to them, but only restriction we want to make is that you can go through the Main Quest up until Dagon Shrine. Once you complete that quest, please don´t go any further.

You guys did a great job on this! It'll probably take me a bit to wrap my mind around the Rank Increasing thing, but besides that it's awesome! But this part:

The extra 40 septims required per 10 points to advance in rank must be given as a bribe to the guildmaster in order to advance in rank. Similarly, a favour must be done for the honest guildmaster alongside this to advance. (Note, a favour and not a mission. This favour could be anything, even a task nearly impossible for your specialization. No rewards are received for this favor)

What exactly does this mean? Do both honest and corrupt members of any specialization have to do this? Or if you are honest you have to do a favor for the honest guildmaster, and if you are corrupt you have to do the bribe?

I'll get around to creating my dude and finding a picture soon, but is it alright if I deviate a bit from the Favored skills for a specialization? Or does Favored mean required? Basically, I was going to swap Blade for H2H as a Guard.
