Hi all, I am new to the forum and new to Skyrim (never played any Elder Scrolls). Trying to learn Skyrim and follow this build has been an uphill battle. I have been trying to follower Mason's advice to train in speech with Revyn Sadri in Windhelm. My 1st Major Problem came after I raised speech 5 points at lvl 1( told in comments to stay a lvl 1) then went to level up to lvl 2 and the UI required me to go all the way up to lvl 10 thus causing me to lose all my training opputunies of 5 points per level. The only solution I found in my search to solve my problem was to use the console command " player.setlevel ". Is this the solution or am I missing something more basic ? After training each lvl what is the best way to make more gold to get speech to 50.

It sounds like you took too long and did too many things to get to Revyn Sadri. The game tracks the level ups on each skill. Although you can temporarily prevent your character from going up a level by not choosing the "level up" option, as soon as you do, it looks at ALL the skill increases you got, and adjusts your overall level accordingly. So even though your character was level 1, you had obtained enough increases to boost yourself to level 10.
To avoid this, don't do anything else in the game. Get out of Helgen as quickly as possible, don't bother with any of the quests in Riverwood, and head straight for Revyn after gathering a bit of gold through easy means such as the Alchemy path suggested. The idea is to not only avoid leveling up your character, but also avoid all the skill ups, so that when you're ready to start training, you'll only go up a level at a time. In the early levels, the 5 skill ups from training alone will take you to the next level until around level 7.

Alright. I seem to be having the same problem with starting off as a few people posting here. I love this build and have pretty read through and through all of Mason's builds. Each one is pretty damn epic and I keep falling more in love with this game.
On to my real question. I get that traveling straight to Rehyn (sp) right out of Helgen is a wonderful idea. The only thing I have an issue with is obtaining gold in the early stages. The alchemy thing is a great idea, but those ingredients I find difficult to come by, and finding enough soul gems to enchant with is beyond annoying. Are there any other suggestions that anyone might have for keeping up with gold while I train my speech?
