Thanks, Zach! The whole time I was reading the series I was thinking... "How would I play this in Skyrim?" I was 3/4 finished with the last of the trilogy when Crossworlds came out. It was a no-brainer for me. I'm just glad there are a few people who are familiar enough with the series to enjoy it :D
As to clothing choice: I don't have the DLC, and anything red in vanilla just didn't quite have the right vibe for me. You're right, though... Dunmer clothes would have been absolutely perfect for this. For roleplay reasons I'd probably still pass over the Telvanni robes (though they look awesome) or at least wait until late game to get them... those wide shoulders would make her look so powerful and confident... I wanted Lirael to be a bit mousy ;D

I know, right? Skyrim really is a great place to throw the Abhorsen universe into... I still can't stop geeking out about how closely Barbas ties in to the concept of the Disreputable Dog xD

It's embarrassing how long it takes me to write these up (some folks can crank them out like nothing), so to hear you say that is extremely gratifying :D
Although I've been too busy playing build writer/host so far to sit down and give your build (and Aidan Blair's) the time it deserves for a thorough read, I'm sure I won't be disappointed... I always thought Gambit was so cool. :D
I'm dedicating this evening for time when I can just sit down and read (which is what I like most about these events), and I've already planned on The Kinetic... I'm really looking forward to it ;D

Ah, makes sense! I especially love how you used Barbas. I have used him as a follower a few times and he is so powerful, and he works great as the Disreputable Dog. I want to hear a conversation between Moget, the Disreputable Dog, and Barbas, lol.

Barbas in the early game is devastating (in fact he was a bit annoying... here I am trying to level up my skills or Soul Trap enemies, and he'd tear through them before take care of business xD). Mid-game, I felt, was just the right balance for me. And of course late game, he really only serves to take some of the heat off, but by then you've built yourself up pretty well to handle that. Disclaimer: I play on Adept, so your results may vary (you may find yourself relying a bit more on magic and summons than swordplay).
For the life of me, I can't remember if Paralysis affected undead in Oblivion (I only really came to appreciate just how powerful the Illusion school is from playing Skyrim). I'm embarrassed to say that I only ever used Destruction and occasionally Mysticism.
Combat was actually pretty fluid for me. I play PC and have those 8 beautiful hotkeys. Once I determined what type of enemy I was dealing with, I would adjust the hotkeys accordingly for the spells I felt I would use most often. I rarely found myself using all 7 spells/shouts in one dungeon crawl. I always had my sword, a rune, a healing spell, a summons spell, and MfD hotkeyed, and I would fill in the gaps near the beginning of a cave or dungeon.
