What is the best way to play a Sorcerer?

    See topic.

I am coming from pausing The Elder Scrolls Online (TESO) to play a lot of Skyrim and Oblivion; and now I am returning to TESO.

I want to build a Sorcerer, seeing as I had a decent amount of fun playing as a mage in Oblivion and Skyrim.

However, I seek tips to play as a Sorcerer.  For example, should I work on my crafting before joining the Mage's Guild?  (I would make him a set of Jute or Cotton clothes, as well as a couple of staffs.)

Also, what level should I try to be before joining the Mage's Guild, and how should I distribute points, upgrades, etc?

Also, I apologize if this is in the wrong board.

Hi Jake, you're definitely posting this in the right place!

The beauty of ESO is that there's no right way to play a class. Sorcerers can be played as Magicka or Stamina based DPS, tank or heals just like any other.

It sounds like you're going for more of a mage angle here though. I would recommend joining the Mages Guild ASAP, so you can start earning XP towards their skills straight away. Crafting isn't terribly important at early levels though do get on to deconstructing those cloth, leather and timber items to start getting some XP!

To be entirely honest I would recommend just grabbing a weapon you like the feel of and see how you go from there! Focus on trying out new skill combinations more than morphing your existing skills and see what works for you.

My preferred weapon is a Destruction Staff (I also use Crystal Shard and Summon Unstable Familiar); I deconstructed that two-handed sword you get at the beginning.

I tend to use the Summoned Familiars as sort of "tanks" - taking the hits for me while I sit back and knock foes down with Crystal Shard, drain them via Mage's Fury, or introduce them to the wrong end of my staff.

I'd like to know if there's some set of clothes that actually looks good (I will enchant them as I need to.)

Sounds like you've got a nice little set going there then. Don't forget to always try new abilities, they might fit in to you're style in surprising ways, especially once morphs are unlocked! As for your outfit I would recommend checking out ESO fashion. Everyone has different tastes after all.
