    Hello!,

This is a copy of a post I did on RPG Group, I'm posting it here aswell, hoping having more feedback and adjusting the post to to this section.

My question is about a class, on terms of a "custom" class.

I'm developing a TES FAN story along with other projects related to TES. There is a main character I'm figuring it out what kind of rol he will do, according to his skills, family past and origins.

First a brief abstract of the starting point and the final point of this character story:

You must know about this main character, his family was a noble one (they were wealthy), they parents were murdered or kidnapped (or just dissapear), at the age of 17 years old, he is facing an entire assault of the place where he grew up, there is chaos and devastation everywhere on the city and the entire region, is too dangerous stay there, he must travel to a foreign region where its supposed he will be safe, where a close friend of the main character father will be waiting for him, who have a very important information to tell about his parents assault.

The only close familiar left what was also on the same region where the main character is was an uncle, who was the one contact him about the bad news of his parents and guide him shortly on abandoning the region.

Between the starting point and the final point where he reach the other region, the main character will face a lot of events will affect him in one way or another way.

    THE QUESTION:

Thinking on RPG style, what classes came to your mind according to the following skills:

(you can name whatever class from whatever universe of fiction, could be medieval, fantasy, sci-fy, etc)

    - A Merchant, he will have to learn by his own how to survive, buying and selling merchandise.

    - A Necromancer, he have a deep thinking and curiosity about "forgotten arts" as a philosphy and will discover interesting things allong his way about it.

One-Handed Sword, due his wealthy family, he took classes since child of sword combat.

Thief, without family he lost some of his personal moral and values, he usually steal from houses or public places, not people, then he sell the "merchandise" on different places or even regions.

Archery, he took classes sinc echild on how using a bow and crossbow, also have some skills of hunting.

    - A Wanderer, due the events happens to his life and his surrounding, he must travel from place to place, until reach the region he is supposed will be safe.

    - A Survival, from the starting point at the end, he must survival and make it for his own, to adapt and face the environment.

Considering those skills (or even those can be consider as a class them selves), but also knowing he is just a beginner, he is not a Master Merchant or a Master Necromancer or a Master on One-Handed Sword combat or a Master Thief or a Master on Archery or even he is not a Master on traveling and being a wanderer.

How would you call that kind of person, what role he is doing, considering a roleplay class what he looks like?, please I would appreciate some tips,

in one word If its possible, what word reflect those skills?,

Please explain your self, I will accept any comment, even If not accurate, It will make me think, I appreciate your participation

    Thanks :)

In short a Necromancer or a varition of one. The reason is that contrary to popular belif Necromancers aren't strictly mages, even in DnD they use weapons like swords, daggers, scythes, and even bows. So that solves the Necromancer, One-Handed, and Archery skills, and as for the rest, I will gladly explain as well. You see the end game of a Necromancer or any class that has elements of Necromancy, is that you gain power and are in control. You said, your character learns to become a Merchant in a sense because he has to survive by buying and selling goods, and this is a good way to gain influence among merchants, and he gets connected to a trading company this can be used to his advantage by allowing him access to the black market, which can improve his Necromantic arts. That would be giving him the power of trade which is quite important. The thief part is easily justified as being his "job". He steals because that is how he gets money and lives just a Hunter hunts to get money and lives off the kills. The Wanderer part is more of psychology thing, in my opinion, because if you steal and study the dark arts you tend to become paranoid until you feel safe, so this has no point in the class name, but the character's psychology. My point on Survival is again it is a psychology thing.

You could it a Necromantic Jack of All Trades but in seriousness, I would go with a Necromancer because as I stated before DnD, Pathfinder, and some other table-top RPG games a Necromancer can use weapons and isn't limited to just magic. I do hope I have explained myself very well, but you need more help I will gladly do so.

Something I didn't mention in the other post is to name the class Necro Ranger, sounds slightly cool-er than the Arcane Ranger cause necromancy is kinda cool :P

Interesting discussion, Medieval. From a gameplay perspective (ie skills) I'd say some kind of 'Dark Rogue' or 'Dark Ranger'. The only skill that'd throw me off is Speech/Merchant, but any character can be charismatic so its not a biggie. The real discussion I'd say is in the actions the character takes after the big battle, as it'll shape them as much as the death and destruction would. The same skills could be used for an honourable scout or a Daedra's minion, its his morality (as well as some other stuff, but mainly morality) than shapes who he is.

Thanks for reply Zonnon, so you said an honourable Scout or a Daedra's minion , interesting. Well this character is kind of gray, he is not a crazy psycho necromancer, he will use necromancy as a tool for fight battles, expecting change the curse of the battle toward his side and only will use necromancy on particular ocassions, he will like to keep his learning of necromancy discrete (maybe because he have some of morality left or maybe because he could take more adventages on people not knowing about he practices necromancy time to time, but would be rumors about it, but does'nt meant those rumors known are true or not). What you said about morality and shape who he is, interesting, yes I think aswell is a base for what he is.

The fact that he uses necromancy more as a tool, and rarely at that, is leaps and bounds more informative than just the skills, you know? Now instead of being an evil assassin he's just resourceful and not as bound by societies rules as others (which then makes me think why - is is due to his desperation while travelling, an inbuilt disregard for the rules or apathy etc.). I really like this character, Med, and I hope to see a profile soon (hint hint)!

You are welcome, and I do because I have been playing as a Necromancer for about 15 years now, so I could get behind the story. Right, a Necromancer, or something with Necro in the name. Also, a Necromancer can be any alignment except for Lawful Good.

Thats great Zonnon, I'm glad you like this character, motivates me more to keep working on this (my TES FAN story), yes he uses necromancy as a tool and as you said he is more focused as "informative" or in other words he interest more about the philosophy of "necromancy" or "dark arts" or "forgotten arts". Also what you said about he is just resourceful and not bound by societies, yes that too, he is good at society as a good merchant does business is, in a way everything for him is a deal. But having to travel is due the environment where is is is full on conflicts, must consider, the story start at 391 3E, times where Jagar Tharn does the Imperial Simulacrum, kidnapp and replace the Emperor and disgusie him self as the Emperor using Illusion magic, so those times are known by being full of conflicts due Jagar administration, were not good days. Other thing this main character must travel not just the whole places where he is (Cyrodiil) is dangerous, but for a more specific quest, he musto go to Morrowind because there is a close friend of his father, that friend was kind of part of the family and he knows something about what really happened to the main charcter parents and what really is going on.

From the starting point (cyrodiil 391 3E) to Morrowind (Seyda Neen specifically), that is a whole book, the first I'm working on writting.

I have to says my work is of "slow cooking", I have taken a lot of time on studying TES lore and thinking carefully to create my story. Here on Tamrielvault I have posted some pics, but those are from gameplay are not totally accurate to my story, but have references about it and the pics and gameplay helps me to inspire me. Also I have posted some blog post related to it, but I decided to stop with posting unfinished or uncertain stuff. Now my blog post about my TES FAN project is like that http://tamrielvault.com/blogs/6990/4419/my-project-the-merchant-a-tes-fan-story  , just without content and on underveleopment state. I'm working on my story anyway and I gladly will post more about it. But I do not want to post underdevelopment content or things are not totally for certain, here on TamrielVault. I have a website I'm working on about all this TES FAN story, I'm creating content there what is for certain (definitive), so I will post on TamrielVault on my blog post after uploading content on my website, here is my website is on his first stages: https://maredark3d.wixsite.com/medievaltesfan , I really enjoy creating this website, I think is a cool way to work on any projet one have.

By the way If you want to contact me to talk about TES stuff, consider add me to Steam, is a good platform to social stuff, the more I use is the chat actually, hehe. Here is my profile: http://steamcommunity.com/id/medieval3d/ , just add me If you have Steam.
