Character Build: Pecunia non olet...

I really hope that there is no similar build on the Vault yet. At least I couldn't find one when I checked...

This build is divided into two different sections - two different playstyles - that share some similarities, but also boast some major differences.

    Part 1: The Noble Merchant

"The Noble Merchant grew up far away from every source of trouble and conflict. He was born as the first son of a rich Imperial merchant and thus had an easy and carefree childhood. He was trained well in the arts of magic and bartering and would one day be a great merchant - just like his father. When he reached adolescence and eventually became older and older he picked up the rumors of the civil war in Skyrim. The young man said goodbye to his father, took his horse and headed north - in hope to find endless wealth and fortune. But as you know he was captured at the border and taken to Helgen..."

Note: If you play on PC and use the Alternate Start Mod, you can choose "Came to Solitude by ship"

Race: Imperial (Make him look young and rich), you can play as a female as well - this might give you an advantage with certain powers/skills

Birthsign: Lover, Atronach, Lord (Your choice)

    Stats: 3/2/0

Blessing/Powers: Blessing of Zenithar, Agent of Dibella, Agent of Mara, Sinderion's Serendipity

Major Skills: Speech, Conjuration, Alteration, Restoration

    Minor Skills: Alchemy, Enchanting, Smithing

Shouts: You can use whatever you like. I found Battle Fury, Dragon Aspect, Unrelenting Force, Dismay and Disarm very helpful (especially if an enemy comes too close)

Armor: Fine Boots/Shoes, Fine Clothes, Gloves, Circlet + Juwelry (enchanted with resistances, fortify destruction/alteration/restoration/conjuration, fortify barter)

Weapon: Any Staff of Destruction will do, always keep it in your left hand - right hand will hold the spells

Spells: Conjure Flame/Frost/Shock Atronach, Flesh spells, spells to heal yourself and others

Followers: Yes, this build requires a follower - a strong huscarl, preferebly a tank, is a good option - I started off with Uthgerd the Unbroken in the Bannered Mare

Must-Have-Perks: The entire left branch of the speech tree; the middle branch of the alteration tree and Mage Armor, Magic Resistance, Stability, Atronach; the entire left side of the conjuration perks as well as the general perks on the right hand side; the middle of the restoration perk tree and the perks Regeneration, Recovery, Avoid Death

Other perks can be distributed amongst the minor skills.

Gameplay: Your goal is to make as much money as possible by doing all sorts of quests and work you can find. You want to be well known and respected  in Skyrim, so make sure to help the folks whenever you can - you are a generous god. Try to buy/build every house available and make friends with the mighty people of Skyrim by becoming Thane of each Hold. Apart from that you can do whatever quests you like and enjoy.

No-No: Do NOT join the Dark Brotherhood or Thieves Guild under any circumstances - you may seek wealth but you would never use the dirty, uncivilised methods thieves and assassins would use. The same counts for Vampires. Should you join the Companions be sure to get rid of the "something" (no spoilers ;D) you get there. You can however participate in the Civil War - together with the Imperials, of course.

Combat: The Merchant doesn't want to get his hands too dirty - thus he mainly lets others fight for him. Your follower is your bodyguard and will do the most damage, together with your conjured Atronach. Be sure to support your allies with healing spells and some ranged firepower from your staff.

    Part 2: The Cunning Dealer

"Just like the Noble Merchant, the Cunning Dealer was raised in a rich trading family. However, he had 3 older, and as they all said behind his back, better brothers. Nobody really cared for him and he lived a life in the shadows of his brothers. Oh, but one day HE would be the best of all of them - he knew it. And he waited silently for his big chance. So when he one day heard rumors about the problems in the province of Skyrim, he took his belongings and traveled to the border where he was captured and taken to Helgen."

Note: Altenate Start Mod users could choose the option "Came to Windhelm by ship"

Race: Imperial (Give him a dirtier, thin, pale look), you can play as a female

    Birthsign: Lover, Ritual

    Stats: 3/2/0

Blessing/Powers: Blessing of Zenithar, Agent of Dibella, Agent of Mara, Sinderion's Serendipity

Major Skills: Speech, Conjuration, Alteration, Pickpocket

Minor Skills: Alchemy, Enchanting, Restoration, Sneak

Shouts: Use the ones you like. Dragon Aspect, Dismay, Marked for Death and Soul Tear were my most used

Armor: Best would be a set of darker clothes/robes. The Mythic Dawn set looked quite neat, but you can choose whatever you like the most (Enhance your clothing with fortify destruction/conjuration/alteration, resistances or a barter and sneak bonus)

Weapon: A destruction staff, the Wabbajack or the Skull of Corruption

Spells: Necromancer spells, Flesh spells, Paralyze and Healing spells

Followers: This character doesn't want anybody near him - except his undead thralls. Human followers just want to steal his treasures...

Must-Have-Perks: The undead branch in the conjuration tree alongside with summoner and the general perks on the right; alteration all the way up to expert as well as Mage Armor, Magic Resistance, Stability, Atronach; all the pickpocket perks (except maybe Keymaster); the entire left branch of the speech tree

Other perks can be distributed amongst the minor skills.

Gameplay: You also wish to be as rich as possible, cost what it may. If you can't achieve your goal by using sweet words, you have to use raw violence. Sharing is caring? Not with the Cunning Dealer - he would even steal a beggars Ragged Robes. Grow rich by trading, and by stealing.

Yes-Yes: This character CAN join the Dark Brotherhood and the Thieves Guild - every method against other merchands and traders is a good option, even if that means getting your hands dirty. The Cunning Dealer can also be played as a Vampire, giving him a nice sneak bonus. Note: If you plan on playing as a vampire - give your character two different eye colors - the vampiric glow will make them look absolutely epic. If you wish to fight in the civil war, you could choose to fight with the Stormcloaks to spread the war and profit from the misery of others.

Combat: The Cunning Dealer appears out of nowhere, slays his opponents with his staves, and reawakens the dead bodies to fight for him in combat. Sneak attacks can be used, however this character is not supposed to be a full assassin.

    Part 3: It's up to you :)

For those, who seek a real adventure: It is possible to combine these two characters into one. I would recommend starting of with the Noble Merchant, eventually turning towards the Cunning Dealer after, let's say, your follower/bodyguard dies. Or a Cunning Dealer experiencing a heavy change, perhaps caused by one of the gods? It's up to you...

Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoyed. If you have questions - just ask me :)

Oh and should there be such a build already in existence, forgive me :/ just tell me and I will take this one down.

Messy. I think you have to choose one or the other. Also you selected smithing as minor skill for part 1. It doesn't make sense. He uses no weapons or armor and sounds like he probably doesn't even know how to hold a hammer.

Ah, yes that is absolutely true: I thought the smithing skill was just another addition to earn some coin - more like a jeweler you know? Craft it and then enchant it... and it would be another way to garantee that your follower always wears the best armor and wields the best weapons. Combining the two characters into one was only a thought I played around with... the "falling to the dark side" thing was just another idea to amplify the roleplay :/

But anyways, thanks for the feedback ;)

A very fragile build but I can see the story and gameplay connections perfectly. Especially, if folks want a merchant build. The first one I've seen on here and I've read alot of builds. Simplistic but I still like it. Great job!
