Hello everybody, Morokei is here with another build. I have been a staunch follower of the blog for a long time and have several of my builds here. I want to make an assassin's build that stays true to its nature: sneaking around the shadow, eliminating the target, getting out without anybody knows. I present to you:

    THE STORMCLOAK’S TASKMASTER

    I. BACKGROUND

I do not know who my parents are. As far as I could remember, I grew up on the street of the great city of Windhelm, begging and thieving to survive. I befriended the Argonians workers at the dock and they taught me lots of things, some even nice enough to give me nearly-stale bread for me so that I would have something to eat.

When I turn 12, I stole some wares from the Khajiit merchants and, unfortunately, they caught me and nearly killed me if not for an old man agreed to pay for my life. As I owed him my life, I followed him and become his assistant. It turns out that the old man was one of the Dark Brotherhood’s assassins. After a really good contract, he abandoned the guild and lived a simple life. For many years I accompanied him on his journeys as he taught me how to use a bow and cast basic spells.

He died due to a disease, Rockjoint I believed, when we were travelling near the border of Skyrim.  Before his last breath, he whispered to me: 'Find Ulfric. Fulfill my debt to his father by serving him.'

There came the twisted hand of fate...

    II. ROLE PLAY

Before I get into the details, let me ask you first:

    1. Do you like assassin? Do you like ninja?

    2. Are you bored of the typical assassin's style?

    3. Do you like marathon? Or running?

If your answer is yes, then this build is for you my friend!

As I have stated before, this is a hard-core assassin build and there are several rules that I apply to my character:

    1. No enchanting on chestpiece, shoes and gloves. Only enchantments accepted are Shrowded Cowl and whatever pieces of jewelry you can find.
    2. You cannot just waltz in and sneak kill everybody in the fort/cave/castle, etc. during a mission. That is not so discreet and not true to an assassin’s nature at all. This means that you will infiltrate the place, remain unseen to everyone and terminate your target/take the wanted object out. Sorry you Rambo fans.
    3. Only kill somebody/something if you absolutely need to kill them to get to the next level. Draugr is the only exception.
    4. No armor. That means no flesh spell, no heavy armor nor light armor. Have you tried on armor in real life? They are pretty heavy though and you definitely cannot wear them without training. This means clothing all the way.
    5. Do not wear a Dark Brotherhood costume to town. It looks dumb. If I were a guard and I saw a guy dressing like that I would stab him immediately before he said a word.
    6. Do not spam Invisibility. Only use it once per quest.

Feels like fun yet? Let’s get on!

    III. EQUIPMENT

       1.   In town:

Roughspun Tunic and Ragged Boots: Nobody suspects some poor guy walking around to be the ultimate assassin.

    2.   On mission:

Shrowded Cowl: For a sweet bonus to Archery.

Mourner’s Robes + Fine Boots: to blend in with the environment (For pure role-play reason only).

Locket of Saint Jiub: For a 50 points Stamina bonus.  Run run run!

    Weapons: Enhanced Dwarven Crossbow.

    IV. SKILLS BUILD (LEVEL 45)

Race: This can either be Redguard, Dark Elf or Bosmer. I personally choose Dark Elf.

    Stone: Shadow or Serpent

Stats: 1:0:1 for Magicka:Health:Stamina. After you reach 200 Magicka, put all points into Stamina.

             -        What? No Health? Are you crazy Morokei? And what Stamina is for when you don't even use a melee weapon?

             -        No I’m not crazy, my mother had me tested! By putting no points into Health and no armor/flesh spell at all, you are forced to keep sneaking around instead of charging in and shouting at things like a crazy Nordic Dovahkiin. You are an assassin, you stick with the shadow, remember? And Stamina you asked? It's for running.

    MAIN SKILLS

Archery: Your sole tool for assassination. The Taskmaster was taught how to shoot a bow when he followed his master. However, after he joins the Dawnguard, he understands how powerful a crossbow is and decides to use it. (Overdrawn 5/5, Critical Shot 3/3, Eagle Eye)

Illusion: Core magical skills to become a master infiltrator. Because you use no flesh spell nor armor, the best way to stay alive is to stay out of your enemies’ sight. The only spells you need will be Fury, Invisibility and Frenzy Rune. (Novice-Expert Illusion, Illusion Dual Casting, Animage – Kindred Mage, Quiet Casting).

     MINOR SKILLS

Destruction: Solely for Rune spells (Novice-Apprentice Destruction, Rune Master).

Smithing: Used to smith and improve your Crossbow and Bolts (Steel and Dwarven Smithing).

Alchemy: Used for brewing Invisibility potions (this is what will save your life) and Restore Stamina potions for, well, to run. (Alchemist 1/5, Physician, Benefactor).

Lockpicking: Novice-Adept Locks, Quick Hands, Golden Touch.

Sneak: The Taskmaster is, at his core, an infiltrator. Sneak in, terminate the target and get out alive. (Stealth 2/5, Backstab, Deadly Aim, Muffled Movement, Light Foot).

Speech: To bribe your way out or to talk people into giving you information (Haggling 1/5, Bribery, Persuasion, Intimidation).

FOLLOWER: Stenvar (only when you venture into Nordic tomb).

SHOUT: Became Ethereal, Unrelenting Force, Call Dragon, Soul Tear.

    V. PLAYSTYLE AKA HOW TO SURVIVE SKYRIM AS A TASKMASTER

Rule number one: Scale the environment, do not just drop down and sneak around, being catched unawared is the worst thing of all.

Do not let yourself walking into this kind of situation. If it happens, let Stenvar handle it, you stay behind and try to put down as many as you can with your crossbow.

Rule number two: You had a crazily massive Stamina pool, if you are detected, run away like the wind, find a corner, drink a Potion of Invisibility and try to sneak past your enemy instead of running farther away.

There are three kinds of situations that you would face:

    1. Bandits: If you can sneak through them, do it. If not, cast a Magelight spells to somewhere for the bandits to run to, then sneak inside the camp. Steal the required stuff, done. If it is to kill the bandit chief, place a Frenzy rune behind you, drop into sneak mod, Fury the bandit chief or Frenzy the lots of them, fire some poisoned bolts at them too. If Fury goes out and they still live, carefully back down, you still got the Frenzy rune behind. Mind the arrows. Keep the potion of invisibility  ready. (I will not tell you the recipe for the potion, it ruins the fun. Keep experimenting) If only the boss is left, paralysis bolt is what you need. You have Soul Tear, use it too.
    2. Draugrs: Stenvar, stay behind and let him do the job.
    3. Dragons: This is when your massive Stamina pool does its work. RUN! If Stenvar is there, cast Courage on him and try to evade the fire/frost breath. Call Dragon will save you.

(This looks epic, but don’t try it alone, you only have 100 Health, value your life!)

    VI. QUESTS

Join the Dark Brotherhood Arentino asked you to kill an old hag who does not deserve to live. You feel sympathy for the boy, so you kill Grelod. You know you cannot best Astrid so as to live, you kill all the kidnapped victims.

Civil War (Stormcloak) To fulfill your master’s wish, you serve Ulfric Stormcloak. You later learn about Armand Mautiere’s plan to murder the Emperor so you report it to Ulfric. This will help further the strength of the Rebellion. During the Civil War, act like an advisor, not front-lined soldier, you are not suited for that task.

Dawnguard (Dawnguard) You don’t like the vampire too much so you join them. Help Sorine Jurard with her errands to receive the crossbow. Whether to finish this or not depends on you, follow your heart.

    -.-.- THE END -.-.-

This would be the end of the build, thank you very much for reading this one. If you like this build, give it a like for me! Criticism is welcome too! English is not my first language so if I am wrong somewhere please tell me.

There is a Dark Elf in the Dark Brotherhood. Gabrielle or something... Also, you say you set out to make an assassin that isn't overpowered, but you ended up doing exactly that. With Illusion you can just calm the entire dungeon, making sneaking pointless.

I use only Frenzy rune to back up in case it doesn't go too well with the plan. I didn't even learn Calm at all :) Only spells I use are Frenzy Rune, Fury (not so much) and Invisibility (which should be used sparingly) :)

I totally forgot Gabrielle, thank you :D

You mention that you dropped Quiet Casting for more of a challenge. But in the "Bandits" section you say "cast a Magelight spells to somewhere for the bandits to run to, then sneak inside the camp" Using a magelight spell without the Quiet Casting perk won't make the bandits run to "somewhere" but it will make them run to you..

Also as you just said to Raidriar you only use the Frenzy Rune, Fury and Invisibility in case things don't go to well, I take it things don't go to well the majority of the time if you need a magicka pool of 300? Maybe lower the magicka pool to 200.

Overall I think the concept of the build is good but needs some work.

Cheers :) I'm playing with a lot of mods installed and one of them make spell casting not as loud (I think it makes as much sound as firing a crossbow) so I guess I must have forgotten about that in the gameplay as I haven't played Vanilla Skyrim for so long.

That might be an important bit to mention, man.
