Build Bounce-Around Thread

  • October 29, 2015

I have ideas constantly for builds, some end up as detailed as an actual build but I just don't have the time to finish them and others remain simply as vague ideas. I figured creating this is a place to simply throw ideas around, either for others to use or for us to build upon and create finished copies. Think of it as a kind of limited Workshop/Help Desk/Recycle Bin

You should call it the WorkHelpBin then.

Damn...How could I make such a  big mistake.

    Interesting, I would use this.

My main one is a Dragon Age Origins Build, that I thought of  at about 3 in the morning, slightly before sleeping so naturally I forgot about 80% of it.

From memory it was a mostly Roleplay build, I hadn't quite figured out the actual specialisations and talents for the character, anyway. At the core of it this character is a fairly simple Mage, rather than focusing on any one thing it works as a kind of Anti-Mage, focusing on the Anti-Magic and Mana Drain spells, with other Spirit and Creation spells to back him up.

Now the Roleplay is that he not only hates the Circle, but he believes that killing other Mages will allow him to become more and more powerful, so he works as a Mage Hunter of sorts, seeking them out not because he hates the Circle, or fears Abominations but simply to become more powerful.

That's about it. It really was a simple, midnight half rambling that I wanted to get down. I don't know if I'm going to continue with it but I might as well out it out here

Anti-mage is certainly an interesting char to play, but my only problem is, that you don´t really work as counter measure against other mages - you know, drain their mana, silencing them, crowd controlling them - but only with one spell you can instantly kill any mage if you´re fast enough before they cas a single spell. Works for most bosses too.

So you pretty much need only those four talents in line to kill the mages, and then help out your companions with the rest.

I've recently fired up another Dragon Age 2 character, and I'm having a hell of a lot of fun with it. I'm rolling a, Archer Rogue for the first time, and it's way more fun than it ever was in Origins, and cooler than Inquisition.

I think the one thing making this playthrough more fun, is my complete lack of interest in Sneak or Deception, basically I'm running around just trying to inflict ridiculous damage and scoring the sweet crits. And I have to say, after finishing the first arc it's by far the easiest character I've ever played. I've died twice I think (maybe only once) and can one-shot just about everything, my critical hits are a roughly %50 chance, and when they hit they do %125 extra damage, it's definetly badass.

My only problem so far is my lack of interest in any of the Specialisations. I'm taking Shadow and Assassin simply to get an ability or two but I won't be using them that much. I really wish they'd added some kind of Archery focused specialization in 2, like the Artificer in Inquisition. Ah well, still a lot of fun, I just hope it's still viable later on.

I´ve never played a Archer Rogue in DA:II for one reason. Well, two reasons. Both Varric and Sebastian are Archers.

But I rememeber a discussion that Assassin Archer can deal an absolute ridiculous damage. Haven´t really tested it myself, but if I´ll look at those talents I´m sure I would be able to do the math.

Alright, so I've been working, for a while now, making a build for Dark Souls 2. I haven't posted it up onto the Workshop yet(maybe i should have done that instead, whatever), because I'm still trying to decide what spells and some other equipment to use in finalized version. I at least found a very fashionable armor set.

It is a build focused on the Drakewing Ultra Greatsword, and trying to maximize its physical damage to make use of the blast attack. Problem is, this means none of the weapon buffs or infusion paths are any good, but I'm using sunlight blade and have tried crystal magic weapon (for looks of course, this is an adaption of a Skyrim character somewhat), as well as including emit force. I've also been playing with the idea of having the Curved Dragon Greatsword as a backup or alternate weapon, but its kinda heavy.

Right now, its a usable setup for co-op and 1v1 pvp, but still struggles sometimes, particularly against hexers who use scraps of life, though I don't think I can do much about that other than equip a shield.

Should I forget about miracles and try to use pyromancy instead? The lightning spells fit thematically, but strain the stats by spreading out too much, and pyromancy would be easier since the pyromancy flame doesn't need int or faith to be effective, and flame weapon is better than sunlight blade. I also am not good with shields though I do keep one equipped.

I don't know, what do you think? I've been wanting to post more builds here in General Gaming builds, but I'd prefer to complete this one first.

Personally, I would keep Miracles, but instead of using Sunlight Blade, I'd use Sacred Oath. It takes up four attunement slots, but it's worth it. Since you're most likely going for DEX, too, I'd go for a Dagger for your secondary in PvE and PvP. If you don't think you'll be parrying that much in PvP, I might choose a DEX scaling curved sword like the Falchion to switch things up for your opponent.
