  I'm playing the build "The Brigadier" and for roleplay reasons, I cannot join the Dark Brotherhood. What is another viable option to level one-handed?

  I'd just not cheat or exploit the game. Hell of a lot more fun IMO.

  Just kill a bunch of people with a sword. It always worked for me.

  Nah, I prefer to get my leveling done as fast as possible and then enjoy the game :}

  Yes, Overhate is right, the companions methode is the best I think, that is a heaven for a warrior. Expert archery trainer (Aela), Master heavy armor trainer (Farkas), Master 2-handed trainer (Vilkas), Expert block trainer (Njada), Expert one-handed trainer (Athis). And technically all for free after finishing the questline and hiring them as followers. I used it too for leveling heavy armor and two-handed.
