Noble Phantasms can be summarized into two major categories...

    • Physical Noble Phantasms, are usually pieces of armour or weapons that are closely related to a specific Heroic Spirit. Items like Tiber Septim's Armour, The Amulet of Kings or The Gray Cowl of Nocturnal are all examples of 'Physical Noble Phantasms' that are closely related to one (or more) Heroic Spirits, and thus would be worn by that individual if they were summoned as a Heroic Spirit. These items would have all the power of the original (unless there's a specific reason for it not having that power, like a curse or blessing) as well as additional powers, usually in the form of a 'Final Ability' that could either be a devastating attack, powerful shield or any other magical power related to a Heroic Spirit...Or, these are super powerful artifacts that make things go boom (whichever definition you prefer).

    • Conceptual Noble Phantasms, are essentially the opposite. By this, I mean they're powers that reflect the Concepts, Ideals, Beliefs or Magical Powers of a Heroic Spirit. These are often a lot more personal, and connected to a person's legend in a more abstract way, but no less powerful than a Physical Phantasm. An example would be Jurgen Windcaller's Thu'um. Not only is it a legendary power, but he's also notable because of his use (or lack of use) of the power, meaning the Heroic Spirit Jurgen Windcaller may possess some form of the Thu'um that is related to peace.

Other quick examples of what a Conceptual Phantasm would be, are things like Martin Septim's Emperorship, or Reman Cyrodiil's ability to rout or lead an army. These are clearly ideals connected to the individual Heroic Spirits, but would manifest in less obvious ways than a weapon or shield.
