The Shipworker: Author's Note

  • Before I begin writing out this story, I should really give credit to Clement Bilhorn's 'The Dockworker' and Saryn's 'The Last', both of whom inspired me, of sorts, to write this. I’ve been wanting to write a story on my character for a while now, and I’ve finally got an idea of how I’m going to put it, after playing a lot of Skyrim and Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. The title is a pun on the usual job of Argonians - Dockworkers, only this time it starts out on a ship. I intend to make it easy to read, with plenty of paragraphs, a simplistic, visual writing style and a somewhat light-hearted approach.

To make it clear, it isn’t going to start in Helgen. It may end up there as he goes to skyrim, but it’s certainly not going to be a paragraph-long backstory and then the usual skyrim quests. No, this is going to start out on the open sea.

As much as I’d like to implement screenshots throughout, I unfortunately don’t own Skyrim for PC. My current laptop would either implode or melt if I tried to install it, so at the minute, screenshots are going to be a no go. I’d also feel somewhat irritating asking the people over at the screenshot request thread for screenshot after screenshot. I’ll be sure to add enough detail so you can visualise it, though! I feel that artwork from other sources may alter the experience, I prefer to have the reader imagine it how they want, so it’s more intriguing.

Depending on how long I continue this series for, and whether or not you guys enjoy it, I may consider getting Skyrim on PC when I get my absolute animal of a computer.

Most important of all though, enjoy! Feedback and constructive criticism is always appreciated, too.

You're telling me, it's really quite annoying. It starts off the coast of Hammerfell, so it'd be hard to get screenshots of that in the first place. PC gaming is always so much better than a console, it's just that they're also so much more expensive, and...  more

The tricky part with the screenshots would be getting a character who looks like your Xbox version and looks the same on PC. The files for faces can be shipped around on PC easily. Heck, entire plugins could be made for your characters. E.g., I have a "mo...  more
