  • 19th of Last Seed 4E201 - A Deal is Struck

My relationship with Lucan continues to improve. I think he see's me as a possible suitor for the hand of his sister Camilla, though in truth my only interest is in trying to ensure that neither Sven (the minstrel from the local tavern) not Faendal (an elf working as a labourer for Alvor) manage to trick her into sharing her affections with them.

Today Lucan offerred me the chance to move out of Alvor's house into Riverwood Cottage. An old property he owns on the far side of the White River.

It was a timely offer, because my relationship with Alvor's wife was becoming decidedly strained. She seems convinced that I am trying to seduce her, and I am concerned about what would happen if Alvor becomes aware of her delusions.

In return for free use of Riverside Cottage, Lucan wants me to try and retrieve The Golden Claw from the bandits who have stolen it from his shop.

The Golden Claw seemed to be some sort of lucky charm as far as Lucan was concerned, although if it really was made of gold it was probably quite valuable too.

Riverside Cottage is not a palace by any means, but it is a home of my own where I need not have to worry about what I say or what I touch. So, I was quick to accept Lucan's offer.

Camilla was also excited and immediately offerred to help me clean house and move my meager possessions into it.

It appears that I may have jumped out of one frying pan into another, but at least Camilla doesn't have a husband with fists the size of anvils to deal with, and Lucan seems positively supportive of Camilla spending as much time with me as possible.

If things begin getting too awkward I may need to give her Sven's letter after all. He keeps pestering me about it every time I see him, and I'm running out of excuses.
