Ingoknin Chapter 8 – Part 2 -Nothing like a good set of plans!

  • Jyta, with Lette’s, help gets the meal out; she brings a tray to Helvia and Sorar.  The rest eat and drink where ever they can find a place to sit.  She divides what is left for the women and herself.   “Jyta, we need to talk.”  “Yes, Lette, what do you need?”  “Remember not too long ago we spoke about how we would love to get out of here?”  “It was only talk Lette; I didn't mean anything by it.”  “Stop, Jyta, it’s me.”  Lette touches Jyta’s face and then hand lightly.  “Please listen, tomorrow we are getting out for good.  No more dealing with Fenrar, or Gan, no more dealing with that evil bitch Helvia.  We deserve better than this.  You and I can start over, maybe find your family.”  Jyta tears up; the softness from Lette is overwhelming, the nightmare she has endured here over the last several months seems to be crushing her.  She knows she can’t cry for it may bring attention and that is something she learned not to attract.  Shaking her head yes she clears the throat quietly and says.  “I just want to get out here.  I’ll do whatever you need.”  “I gave lock picks to one of the ladies, her name is Neesha, the Redguard, and she said she can pick any lock.  She is going to need cover tonight to pick those locks, once she does a few of the women will switch cages to coordinate our plan of escape.” Nodding Jyta agrees, “Sure, I can do that.”

After the meal Gan, Mendre, Tibus, Roland, and Rona decided to take a ride to the nearest tavern to let off some steam.   Sonrar and Helvia were reviewing the plans on the sale coming up in her tent.  Nistac, Lette, and Fenrar are on night watch.  Pretending to be cleaning Jyta brings a wash pail over to the cages, Nistac doesn’t even notice.  After he passes, Jyta stands by the cage door and Neesha gets to work, Jyta sees Nistac he seems to be looking their way, her nerves are raw, Nin notices the fear in her eyes, “Hi, my name Ingoknin, friends call me Nin, what’s yours.”  Nin keeps an eye out on Nistac as well.  “Jyta”  “That’s a lovely name, where did you grow up Jyta?  Hurry up Neesha, we don’t want to get him suspicious.”  “I am….almost….there…”  “I grew up in Markarth.”  “There got it!”  Neesha stands up.  The lock releases.

Lette walks over to Nistac and starts up a conversation to distract him.   Lette shifts her body so that naturally Nistac moves with her and eventually his back is to the cages.  Neesha slips out and she starts to work on the other lock.  Idonis and Viania, the two Imperial Soldiers, are by the door, they will slip into the cage with Bagrak and Nin and Neesha will go into the other cage.  As this is happening Fenrar starts to come toward the wagons.  Jyta sees him, swallowing her fear, she moves towards Fenrar, knowing she can distract him.  “Um, hi Fen, I can call you Fen right?”  “Uh, sure” a little confused Fenrar steps back.  He squints “what’s going on here?”  “Nothing, I…I…just realized you were gone a long time, and well…you know maybe thought you wanted me to um…to…. uh…come to your tent tonight, or something, you know.”  “Well, well what do you know, finally, I knew you were a dirty girl underneath, you just needed ole’ Fenrar to coax it out of you.”  Uh, well, uh sure” she nervously laughs.  They hear a metallic noise; Fenrar looks over at the cages.  Without really thinking, Jyta throws herself at him, kissing him even though it repulses her.  This takes his attention right off the cages!

Damn, the lock is so rusty once it is released it created a loud metallic noise.  The entire group of women stop, they look over at Fenrar and see Jyta throw herself at him.  Knowing she is doing it to help; without further hesitation they all make the switch.  Now, poor Jyta has Fenrar’s hands all over her.  Trying to still act the part and control the situation, Fenrar soon gets the better of it and he lifts up her dress and pushes her against a wagon.  “HEY, YOU TWO KNOCK IT OFF, leave that for later!!!”  Nistac shouts.  Like a kid caught with his hand on a forbidden sweet roll, Fenrar backs off.  “Yeah, no problem Nistac, just got shall I say caught up in the moment.”  “Yeah, well not now, with the others gone I don’t want to take a chance on someone ambushing us and stealing our shipment.  When they get back, take her then.”  Jyta seizing the moment hurries away, she feels that sick feeling coming over her, but she didn’t know what else to do, she runs over to her tent, crying.

“Hey, Jyta, you still in here?”  “Yes.”  “I know that could not have been easy for you.”  “No, it’s OK, I guess, I just hate myself I feel powerless.”  “Well, you shouldn’t what you did saved us from Fenrar finding out what we were up to, because of you we can still escape.  Don’t think because you didn’t hit him you weren’t lethal.  What you did anyone of us would’ve had to do in that situation, what you did made him forget about checking the cages.”  Jyta smiles at Lette, feeling a little better.  “Chin up kid, we are out of here soon.”

Damn, that little whore got him all worked up, just when he was thinking of getting rid of her, maybe she had potential after all.  He loved when they fought back, it made taking them that much more satisfying.

Stumbling back to camp, Mendre and Rona fall into their beds.  Gan, completely intoxicated was passed out in the back of the carriage they took home.  “Mendre, where are the other two loafs?”  “Tibus & Roland were staying in town.  They had some coin and the bar wenches seemed more than happy to take it from them.”  “Gan is passed out, you smell like a barrel of mead!  I told you guys not to go overboard!  Forget it I’ll have Fenrar bring him to his tent.”  Disgusted with the way this group behaved sometimes, Nistac thought fun and games should be saved for after the sale.  Going to the other side of camp, he locates Fenrar, “Gan is passed out in the carriage can you help me move him?”

Bagrak overhears what is being said, she motions to Idonia, “Hey, did you hear that?  I think we should move up the plans, two aren’t back and the other two drunk.  I say we won’t get a better opportunity.”  “Yeah, I agree, let’s get out of here tonight.”  Idonia gets the attention of Nin who was looking up at the stars and thinking of home.  Bagrak tries to get Lette’s attention.  No sense in waiting it is time for them to escape!

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Aranni, left with the first light of day.  Curwe and Vantus seeing him off, they gave him a satchel filled with dried meats, and some fresh water.  He can see The Pale’s southern mountain range and Shearpoint in the distance.  He felt like he was being pulled towards her.  He rode the entire day stopping only when absolutely necessary for the horse.  The sun was setting when he found the deserted camp site.  Dried blood, arrows, two dead men that the animals took to feasting on, just chaos.  The horses gone, Ingoknin and the Orc gone, but their belongings were still there for the most part anyway.   Where were they, what happened, where is Codell’s bow?  His first thought Stoamcloaks again.  Looking at the two dead bodies they do not have the attire of the Stormcloak forces, just some hide armor, they looked more like thieves then soldiers.

He started to look though the scattered belongings.  He recognized Ingoknin’s pack, practically nothing touched inside, the ring pouch, her flute, still there, along with a change of clothes.  Her journals were on the ground, some cooking utensils thrown about, and a bed roll that appears something tried to drag away.  He goes through the mess; a wooden bowl, the Orc’s sword, and two daggers, that’s when he sees another pouch tucked between the rocks.  In there is a bag of coins, some potions, and some herbs.   Putting the pouch on the side he sees something else stuffed down the crevices, laying on his stomach he reaches down and pulls it out, it feels promising.  There it is Codell’s bow, safe, opening the top he sees the plans are still there, thanks be to Y’ffree!

Nice, about time they start to act! If I may suggest, maybe don't use too many names at once? I mean you introduce the bandits in the previous chapters, but don't focus on them much (understandable since they are not the main characters). Then you have se...  more
