Unwelcome vistors

  • They rose out of the sand like it was water, the yellow grains rolling off their long black armored bodies. They are significantly smaller compared to the elephants, but they were almost everywhere. One of them, a bigger one than the rest, probably the head female, hissed at the Khajiit and eyed the pots at one of the elephants' sides.

Huh? These creatures are not known to attack people, they usually leave the Khajiit alone, what in the name of Oblivion are they doing here?. They hissed a challenge at the elephants, their riders and us, in response, I blasted on of them with a fireball, making it recoil in pain. These things usually hunt at night, they hate the heat, so, why are they here?

The Redguard looked at the centipede like creatures with wide eyes, "W-w-what are those things?"

"Siligonder, but they never attack people on purpose, they spit goo, get ready for a tough fight," I replied. She quickly grabbed her bow and fumbled with nocking the arrow. The Cathay-Raht on the elephant beside us directed his mount to crush onto two of them, two already down, five more to go. I unsheathed my scimitar, the curved blade glowing in the sunlight.

The Cathay-Raht grabbed a spear off one of the elephants and tossed it at one of the insects, the spear grazed the tough shell of the Siligonder, only making it angrier. He turned to us and cried "Aim at the gaps in their armor! They are weak there!"

I turned to look at Jalian, her hands were shaking like leaves in the wind, there's no way she's will hit the mark, unless she's really lucky. She closed her eyes, and with a slight whimper she fired, the arrow flew a crooked path and by some miracle it actually hit something. It pierced the head female in the eye, making it screech, and began to try and shake the arrow off.

After some time frantically trying to shake the arrow out of its eye, the arrow snapped, the arrowhead still stuck in the head female's eye, with a loud screech it dove into the sand, the rest of the insects following her.

We looked at the place where the Siligonder once stood, and then looked at Jalian. She looked flustered, embarrassed even. The Cathay-Rath made a sound, as if he was going to talk, but I was the first to speak. "That, has got to be the luckiest shot I have ever seen in a hundred years, I don't know what to say...except for this. You, are one lucky Redguard."

"I-I-That. Was..." Jalian trailed off. I expected her to be speechless, but instead, her voice fired out like a firebolt, "That was awesome! Did you see that shot? I can't believe it actually hit! My father was right! This bow does bring anyone in my family luck, the best kind too, I can't believe that happened! I actually saved the caravan. By Arkay. By Arkay. I can't stress this enough, did you see that? I mean, of course you saw, unless you got sand in your eye, but that would mean that you heard the screech, I hope, or that sand got in your ear and-"

"Okay, that's enough, Jalian," I said. My voice sounding slightly irritated, surprising not just the Redguard, but myself too. I'm beginning to lose my patience with her, I must temper myself. "Sorry," I said quickly. There was an awkward silence and the elephants began to move again.

It seemed to last for hours, even though it was just for a moment. It was soon broken by the Cathay-Raht, "This one has not seen such a lucky shot of the bow, he can only wonder which Divine has guided that arrow to strike true. It was a fluke, little Redguard. Pray that it happens again, Jaksadarg saw how you reacted to the Siligonder, you won't live long out in the desert like that."

"I don't intend to, in fact I intend to move the the jungles, wher-" started Jalian, but she was cut off by the Cathay-Raht. "Where you will get bitten by the many poisonous spiders and die in a painful way."

The head Khajiit apparently heard everything and said "Hush, do not scare the girl, she's our guard and you should treat her with respect."

"Yes, father," said the chastened Cathay-Raht, his mottled ears drooped. I looked at the Redguard, apparently the Khajiit has shaken her a bit with his words. This is going to be a long trip.

This is the Ne Quin-al Desert. What's a Spiceworm? Is it a Redguard thing?
