Sand, sand, sand and a Redguard

  • Hello there, my name is Wellin Graylock, I'm an adventurer, but I'm considered quite young for my age, I'm about 218 years old but I handle myself well. Right now, I'm exploring my home province, Elsweyr. Yes, I was born and raised in Elsweyr and currently I've been hired to guard a caravan, I am to escort them from Rimmen to Corinthe, they've just hired another guard, a Redguard and by the Gods, she talked a lot.

"So, you're saying you were born here, which city? Do you have siblings? How does it feel like living around Khajiit? What's your name? How old are you? Are you a mage? Do you like cheese?" asked the Redguard, she was wearing a hood that protected her from the sun's rays and the sands and had her mouth covered, but that didn't muffle what she said. Doesn't she need to breath? I've never heard and or seen someone talk so much in one go before, I decided to be polite and answer her questions.

I replied, "Yes, I was born here, my family and I live in Torval. I have a sister, she's getting old enough to start adventuring now, maybe I'll meet her on my travels. I'm okay with living around Khajiit, after all I lived with them for most of my life, I remember courting an Ohems once, but we broke up, we had...complications. My name is Wellin Graylock, you can call me Wellin. I'm about 218 years old, I'm considered y-"

"You're 218 years old?! Wow! I'm only 19!" exclaimed the Redguard.

That explains alot, the Redguard is young and curious, maybe a little impulsive, then again, I can't judge a person by her looks. I continued "Anyways, I'm considered young, and I'm not really a mage. I'm more of a spellsword, I prefer to fight using a sword, but when the enemy is out of reach, I'll blast them with fireballs, if I get hurt I'll just heal myself. Finally, no, I'm sorry, I don't really like cheese," I finally finished answering the questions, I looked at the Redguard, bracing myself for more questions, but instead she said "Okay, I'm Jalian Mirel, you can call me Jalian, nice to meet you," and she extended her hand. I took it and shook it, hmm that rhymed.

One of the Khajiit called out to us "You two get on your camels, we're setting out!"

"Right!" I replied, and hastily made it to my camel. I climbed on his back and urged him to move, I looked back and saw the Redguard catching up behind me on her camel. When she reached me, she slowed her camel and started talking again, this time she introduced herself. She said "I feel like I should properly introduce myself,  so...as I said, my name's Jalian Mirel. I'm born Cyrodill, in Anvil, my parents are members of the Fighter's Guild, and I'm quite good with the sword thanks to the training I got from them, but I prefer the bow, since I don't like blood splattering on me, it's dirty and gross and did I mention that it was gross? Anyways, I'm pretty good with sneaking around, and no, it's not because my skin is dark, I hate that stereotype and if you ever find a lock you can't pick, find me, I'll open it in a snap! If you're wondering I was born under the Tower Sign, all the locks bow down to me. Oh, and my bow here has been passed down for three generations, it made of some kind of black wood and it hardly breaks, it's easy handling makes it easier for me to draw and fire a arrow..."

She rattled on and on about herself and what she can do and she also sad something about the Oblivion Crisis, I listened because it was helping me pass time, and strangely I found her interesting, I was never much of a lock picker  I tend to blast them open and end up attracting unwanted attention to myself, maybe she'll come in handy if I have her with me in my adventures. I decided to make her stop because I'm pretty sure she needed to breath so I cut her off by saying, "Okay, that's all I need to know, say, do you even know the dangers of Elsweyr? You said that it's your third day here, do you even know about what's out here in the desert?"

"Well...I know how to survive a desert, after all I'm a Redguard, it's in my blood, and I think that there are those rat goblin things and those lizard things called Nequinal?" said Jalian.

I nodded and said "You mentioned two dangerous creatures that are in the Ne Quin-al, or as you know it Anequina desert. There are far worst creatures then the ones you've mentioned, but don't worry they won't bother us, if we don't bother them."

"What if they're in the sands? Just waiting for us to come to them?" asked the Redguard. A Khajiit, a Cathay-Rath overheard our conversation and said "Then, Khajiit will rip them apart!"

"What if the opposite happens?" asked Jalian. The Cathay-Rath chuckled and said "Jaksadarg does not fear death, after all it'll be a good way to join the stars." After saying that he laughed bravely.

I didn't need a scholar to tell me that he's overconfident, jamming a dagger into your heart is a quicker way to die. I shook my head and turned to Jalian, she was busy adjusting her hood, I looked down and saw a glimpse of a wicked looking scimitar. It looked old, and at the hilt there was an emerald where it met the blade. Jalian saw me looking at the scimitar and said "This sword's older than you. It's seen battle during the Oblivion Crisis, but it's more useful when fighting undead though. It's made of silver, and silver and undead equals another person laid to rest. Speaking of undead...They're disgusting! Rotten flesh and annoying moans. I'm surprised that their masters can tolerate them, I mean, I can't and I'm pretty sure you and anyone else can't!"

I nodded at the statement and said "Undead are something that are not natural, something dead should stay dead, not come back to life and attack you. The poor victims' soul is torn from whatever afterlife they had and placed in a decomposing vessel that might be their body, man or beast. I think that it's very cruel to them."

Suddenly the sands shifted and one of the elephants reared up and stamped on the ground, giving out a trumpeting roar. I looked at the sand and saw black familiar shapes rising from it.

Author's Note: Well that's the first part done...and yes I've voiced my thoughts upon necromancy. Something dead should be dead. Oh for Arkay's sake! Used the Dawnbreaker!
