    (Shadowrend’s Adventure of Destiny)

(Continued from ‘Noise in The Woods’)

It was another freezing morning in Falkreath and Shadowrend was off to an early start as usual. It had been about a month since the horror of the road. He had had a very close encounter with a robust beast that would have killed him if his brother had not had been there. Shadowrend still thought of this and it gave him the goose bumps. Shadowrend had since been insistently working on his abilities to enhance the summoning of his Atronach. He had gotten better, and now if something were to happen like that again he would be prepared.

Well one afternoon Shadowrend decided to go off and explore some dungeons for their loot. He was looking to get enough cash to acquire himself a new bow. The old one he had was lost due to the Were-wolf. Apparently while he was running for his dear life the wolf was clever enough to destroy all his materials that were left back at camp. That must have been why he had an early start. He had found this out when he was on his way back home from his brother’s town. His propitious bow was now just splinters and nothing more.

Shadowrend had been listening like his brother had told him to do, and he had heard that Dead Falls Cave had been causing a lot of trouble to his town. A bunch of bandits had taken up in the cave and was stilling things at night, taking them back to the cave. “The cave must be around here somewhere?” thought Shadowrend. The town’s folk had rumored that the cave was near the Lake of Klmalth, which had only 30+ caves around it. This was really no help at all, how would he ever find out were it was. Around dusk Shadowrend heard some people talking in the distance. It was not very clear; he could only make out certain words. “I can’t do this anymore… killing inocen… people and kids…” “You have to or… illed and you don’t want that… you? It is either you… the kids, maybe… think about that… time you don’t want to kil…” As Shadowrend was listening he inadvertently stepped on a twig and the breaking of it seemed to reverberate on ceaselessly. “What was that!? Jilkko go and check that out… MOVE!” “ All right fine! Sheesh.” Shadowrend had to think fast he could again use the invisibility spell, that’s it! And without further a due he vanished from existence. He knew he only had a minutes worth of time and he used this to sneak by.

The bandit sent to check the noise was actually dangerous looking; he had on some magnificent glass armor that was more than likely stolen, along with that a brutal ebony war axe that still had dried bloodstains on it. Obviously they were in a fight of some sort not very long ago. As Shadowrend neared the camp, he saw the other bandit and this guy was a lot bigger and had on ebony armor that gleamed with the light of the fire. With that, an astounding ebony claymore that looked recently cleaned as it did shine like a bright burning star on a dark night. Not far from him was a cavern door and most likely it was the cave that Shadowrend had been looking for. The door happened to be open because evidently they were still bringing in stolen goods at the time. It was rather effortless to get into the cave. Shadowrend entered and things began to get rather cold and wet and eventually very slippery. There was a good reason for the name of the cave, Dead Falls. There were no bandits to be seen and the spell had begun to wear off now. He would have stay in the shadows and that would be hard considering they had every inch of the cave lit by torchlight. There was some noise up ahead, and Shadowrend dived behind a boulder. The noise was a man with a wheel barrel that was empty. He must have been coming back for more of the stolen goods out front this was good. See, if they had the place rigged, which they more than likely did, then Shadowrend could wait for him to come back and walk were he does. This would also show him where they had all of their valuables. This was really good.

As Shadowrend waited, which felt like eternity, he thought to himself, if things get really out of hand would he be able to fend off all the bandits himself. He had never really been in any sort of battle of any kind except with small animals like cave rats and wolves.  He had began to think this might have not have been the best way to get the money for the bow. But then came the man again and he was alone has he had expected. This man was not as brutal looking as the other men outside. He had on some rusty looking armor and a sliver dagger. Nothing that bad, but, still a threat. As he passed, Shadowrend silently stalked the man watching where he walked and stepped. Apparently there were many traps from the way the man was moving. One minute he be walking normal and the next he be acting like he was dogging invisible arrows. I had almost tripped a wire that almost seemed transparent to me, but I saw it last minute and avoided a very painful death. After walking for about 3 minutes we arrived at a door and he used a key to open it. While he was fiddling with the lock Shadowrend snuck into some shadows that were nearby. He got his name Shadowrend from a sword he had in his family that had supposable been passed down to each son since 200 years ago. Somewhere along in his family history a man that was to become the new Sheogorath had acquired this sword and ever since his death has had it passed down in the family. But Shadowrend also resembled his name because he was very sneaky and elusive in the shadows. The sword was still in his father’s hands for now but in 2 days time he would obtain this for his 18th birthday.

The now aggravated man was finally in the door and what Shadowrend could see was beautiful. It seemed as though the room was glowing there was so much loot and gold. After putting everything in there he was off again and would not be back for a while. As he went off he was grumbling a few words of curses at the door. The locked door was defiantly no problem for Shadowrend for he had a spell rather than a key. The lock was rather tricky but Shadowrend could solve it without any indecision. A rookie would not have had any chance with it. As the door swung open Shadowrend was blinded by the outstanding view of all the valuables in the room. He had almost cried, for this was the most amount of money and loot all in one place at one time that he had ever seen. It was magnificent just magnificent. There were mountains of septims on top of diamonds, rubies and sapphires. Shadowrend grabbed his sack and started packing it full. About 2 minutes later he had it full and tied it up. It was rather heavy and he knew he would be traveling slowly. Too bad he was not a caster of feather spells. If he were this would be a lot easier.

The man was coming again and this time there was no hiding, as soon as Shadowrend was out of the room of gold the man had saw him and was running with his dagger in had. Shadowrend made a sly movement to the left and the man never saw what was to come his way. A devastating lighting bolt was flung right at his helpless body and was soon charred.  He may have never been in a fight but he sure acted like a veteran. With all the noise he had made with the fight, he picked up his sack and was gone. He had remembered his steps and dogged the traps and behind him was another bandit; he must have been in such a rage that he had forgot about the traps and a massive blade that swung out of the wall instantly killed him. He was cut right in half and it was too grueling to watch and Shadowrend was off again. As he was running he had noticed something that he had not noticed before. It was as though it were calling him to come to it. He was spellbound; he had to go see it for it would kill him if he were to leave. As he went down an abandoned cave hallway at the end he saw what was drawing his attention. There in front of him was these ancient words carved on a rather large stone. It had sketched on it what appeared to be 3 ancient words. But strangest thing was that he could read it. It read “THE WIND OF THE GODS” and out of nowhere came this enormous amount of power that rushed through is veins, and then out came this enormous power that threw the ancient stone into the cave wall and shattered it into pieces.

This was truly amazing! He had simply uttered what he had read and blasted a huge shockwave of wind right from his body. He felt like he could now take on an army of a 100 and only come out with a cut. After realizing this he broke off into a rush to meet the other bandits to show them his newly found power. Sure enough they were coming down a narrow hallway and without warning Shadowrend yelled at the top of his lungs, “FUS RO DA!!!!!!” The amount of power in that one was even more powerful than the last, maybe because he had yelled it or maybe because he felt absolutely untouchable. The men went flying into the wall. The great big one from outside had busted his head wide open from hitting the wall and was now unconscious lying on the floor. The smaller man hit the wall so hard I bet every bone in his body was broke. Even the wall had a dent in it. Off again and he was finally back outside the cave. He could now see the sun just breaking over the misty mountains in the distance. He had left his horse about 60 yards from were he was and he went to it. He found it, and put his bag of riches on it. In the distance from were the cave was he heard a loud bunch of noise that sounded like a lot of bandits swarming from their cave like fire ants from their mound. He had to get out of there, he actually felt kind of tired from the last to shouts he said. He might not be able to get another one off his tongue, so he was off like a lightening bolt. He headed back home to his city with his newfound power and with his bag of riches.

As he arrived back in the city he went home and put his bag of loot in a safe place. The bow he wanted was in the town market and he planed to buy that the next day, but for now he wanted sleep, yes, sleep would be what he would do and he did for the next 2 days.
