The Tales of Nendir Olaffsen - Part III

  • Eventually, they did indeed reach Sorine by mid-evening Loredas. Marcurio looked more tired than ever. "You're a mage aren't you? Surely you have some sort of recuperation spell?!" Nendir jokingly chuckled. Marcurio and Nendir eventually found Sorine by what appeared to be some sort of Dwemer-like gyro-infused contraption, which was spinning furiously atop a golden pedestal not far from her.

"Are you... Sorine? Isran sent me. He said you knew a thing or two about crossbows..." Nendir answered. "Can't you tell from the Dwemer Gyrotorium?" She snapped back. "A Gyro-what?" Nendir and Marcurio answered together. "It's a gyrotorium, it allows a gryoscope based contraption to fuse to a propulsion system which allows for greater maneuverability when firing. I learned a few months back it could be quite simplistically connected to the leverage mechanism for a crossbow." Sorine babbled intellectually. Nendir was quite stunned.

"Well...(He was at a slight loss for words) ..."Isran needs you at Fort Dawnguard. Surely you've heard about the recent vampire attacks?" Nendir was getting quite sick of saying it. If he had a septim for every time he'd said 'vampire' in Last Seed... His thoughts were interrupted by Sorine. "Well, it'd be damn good to test out my new invention. I was also working on better projectiles.....if we had some Dwemer metal and...." she trailed off. "I'll meet you there." She said hastily, clearly in mid-thought.

It was early Morndas before Nendir and Marcurio found their way back to Fort Dawnguard. They got inside. Sorine, and the rest of the Dawnguard were all crowded round in the main chamber. Nendir looked around, but couldn't see Isran. A voice boomed out of nowhere. It was Isran's, recognizably.

"Olaffsen! I wish to to speak to you. It is a matter of utter most urgency." Nendir hurried around the stone column and up the spiral staircase to the level Isran was on. Isran eyed him for a moment before disappearing around the corner. Nendir followed. It wasn't long before Nendir was greeted by a face he hadn't seen that long ago. It was Serana. Isran readied his warhammer. "Now...Nendir....is there any reason I shouldn't smear this dirty fiend up the stonework with my hammer right now?!" Isran said calmly, trying to hold back his feelings of obvious bloodlust. "Well let's just see what she's got to say first shall we? We wouldn't want to void her trip here....then she's all yours." Nendir replied, coldly.

"Explain yourself, girl. I'm growing annoyingly uncomfortable with your mere presence." Isran spat, most disgusted. He wrinkled his nose, and shifted his hammer beneath his hands, face contorted.

Serana, with the most delicate tone, began to explain to the both about her heritage. "My father, is, by now, as you might have guessed, not a ....well... good person, even by vampire standards."

"What about this Elder Scroll?! Why do YOU have it? I demand to know!" Nendir voiced advisedly. Isran whispered something to Nendir, which he didn't quite catch. He managed to make out the words 'kill', 'now', 'take' and 'scroll'. Serana must have caught this as she began to hurriedly explain herself.

"My father...wants the scroll for some prophecy....It's really hard to explain. He wants to blot out the sun...I know, it sounds crazy, but I need some help, basically." Serana quivered.

"Let me get this ...completely correct....you, a vampire, with an Elder Scroll, wants help to destroy your own father, the leader of a sadistic blood-sucking cult, who has a highly developed prophecy to blot out the entire fucking sun, to empower all Night-Walker's on the face of Nirn itself?! Nendir was gobsmacked, enraged, and confused.

"Yes, that's correct." Serana replied, as if Nendir's re-explanation didn't sound any crazier than it really was.

    "Wow." Nendir replied.

"Well, once you two are done....fraternizing.....report back back to me. Sorine also mentioned to me she wants help collecting some Dwarven scrap metal and gyroscopes for her latest project....have fun, won't you?" Isran said cockily.

"Looks like we're going to Arkngthamz." Nendir said, regrettably, most irritated.

"Isn't that the legendary Dwemer ruin that holds the Aetherium shards? They're really powerful, they unlock the Aetherium Forge, I've read about it." Serana replied.

"I think so. If it is, we'll have a brilliant chance against your loony of a father." Nendir said hurtfully. "Marcurio will have to wait; He proved himself against a few Mistwalkers, but that's nothing compared to the monstrosities in Arkngthamz..."

It seems everything is going on too quick. Like in the beginning, first you talk about how tired they are and even start a dialogue and then jump right to finding Sorine. Then they exchange a few words and make all the journey back to the Fort. It seems a...  more
