Launch Week News Update #1

  • I've been doing some searching for new information on Skryim (as usual for me) and I found some new and non-spoiler video clips I thought might be good to share.

The first is a video clip posted to youtube by Bethesda, has a small amount of not yet seen footage but nothing really spoiler-ish by any means. If you wish to view the video you can do so HERE.

I found an article that will be of great importance to all those playing Skyrim on the XBox360.  Apparently Skyrim uses a technique for playback on the 360 where you run very low quality textures if you don't install the game to the hard drive.  The article includes comparison photo's, doesn't seem like a huge difference to me in the photo's, but then I won't be playing on the 360 either.  The article can be found HERE.

As many of you have likely heard by now, Skyrim will already have its first patch waiting on it just as soon as you get it home from the store.  Bethesda announced yesterday that there would be a patch on day one.  Size and contents of the patch are not known, it was first announced (according to Google) by the good people at JustPushStart.Com

And Last but not least for this Launch Week news update, for those of you who didn't want to bother with getting the 656 glorious pages of the new Prima Official Skyrim Strategy Guide, and lets face it, 656 pages is a pretty heavy book to add to your burdens.  Prima has announced that there will be a digital version of the strategy guide.  The advantage here is that the digital version will be in a form of pdf which is fully searchable, which can make finding that 1 particular tid-bit of information you want out of 650+ pages of content so much easier to locate.  The first notice I found was posted by Product-Reviews.com.

And thats my Monday post for the Launch Week Update, I will make another post as soon as we have enough new stories and information to share!

It seems we cannot install from the disc. But after activating Skyrim on steam you can pre-load it. But this means it will download all the files from Steam instead of using the disc. Pretty dumb system, but hey, atleast now its installed by the time i ge...  more

This doesn't have anything to do with the article per se, but did anybody notice it says, "shrine to Peryite" in the corner. Daedric shrines FTW :D

Sadly the steam forums are down so i cant find anything right now. I guess it'll be back online when i get home. And else i should be able to preload as i did already register the CD key. And then ill just install directly from Steam and not from the disc.

I just looked at the article and there has been a correction apparently the texture issue occurs if th game is installed on your console which is just weird.

I pre-loaded off steam, but I think its different than off the disk.  If you go on the steam support site there was an article i found that showed how to force an install from a disc to ignore Steamworks until the activation .. I think thats what you woul...  more

Possible, cant install without going on Steam. But i was mostly wondering about Steams preload. It lets you essentially install the game but simply keeps it locked till 11-11. And now that preload has been opened up maybe its possible to also install it w...  more

Dunno Hero, All the files that Steam downloaded are encrypted, you can't even watch the downloaded videos and there is no .exe file to run at any rate.  Probably a good bet there's no game client on the retail dvd's also

I bought the game in the store, they were having an early release sale. I'm at work now, but can the game also be "pre-installed"?
Couldn't yesterday, wondering if anyone had any more details on this.
