Skyrim Character Backstory: Silkver

  • Silkver is an Argonian hunter, who lived in the Black Marsh till age 24. Tired of the same atmosphere, he struck out on his own. He brought with him his father's bow, a quiver full of arrows, a hunting knife, and his maroon hooded cloak. He spent 2 months wandering, living off the land, surviving harsh winters, until he came across the Imperial  City.

Silkver spent the night at a tavern in the poor part of the City. When he woke up, his gold was gone. All of it. He was completely broke. Silkver heard a noise at the door. It was the inn-keeper, demanding payment for the room. Silkver panicked. He reached for the lantern next to the bed. He picked it up, and crept over to the door. The inn-keeper was pounding on the door now.

"Open up!" A gruff voice shouted. "If you don't open this door, I'm getting the guards."

Open it I shall. Silkver thought. He swung the door open, and before the inn-keeper could react, brought the lantern down on his head, knocking him out cold. The lantern hit the ground loudly. Silkver knelt down and looped his arms around the inn-keepers, and drug him backwards into the room. Silkver lifted him onto the bed, and left the room, shutting the door behind him. He walked out of the tavern without anyone noticing. Why would they? They had problems of their own. He stepped outside and looked around. It was nighttime.

Silkver asked a passerby where he could find the stables. The man told him to look around outside the city. Silkver did, and after a few hours of searching, he found the stables. He pulled his hood over his head to protect his identity. A farmhand was raking horse crap into a pile near the corner of the horse pen. Silkver dropped into a crouch and slowly crept over to the stall next to the one the farmhand was in. He pulled his knife from his pocket and worked at the lock on the gate. After a few moments, he got it open. The lock dropped to the ground with a metallic clang. Silkver jumped. The sounds of the farmhand raking ceased. Silkver ducked into the horse pen, behind a large bale of hay. The farmhand appeared right after Silkver got into his hiding place.

"Damn horse," The farmhand muttered, looking at the lock on the ground. He picked it up and latched it onto the gate again. He took one last glance around the stall, and went back to his raking in the other pen.

Phew. Silkver thought. He crept over to the horse and climbed onto its back. The horse, not expecting this, bucked all around the stall. Silkver held on for dear life. This noise brought the farmhand back over.

"The hell's gotten into yo-" The farmhand stopped. "Get off my horse!" He fumbled with the lock, but he was too late. Silkver had already got the horse under control and jumped the low fence with it. "Get back here!" The farmhand shouted after him. "Guards! Guards!"

Nope. Silkver thought. He kicked the horse with his heels to get it moving faster. Silkver continued to run on the horse, not looking back. Once he was sure he was a safe distance away, he pulled back on the horses mane, not having anything else to hold onto. The horse reared, and Silkver fell off, getting the wind knocked out of him. Gasping for breath, he dragged himself over to the side of the road, behind some bushes, and sat down. He regained his breath, and got back up. He walked along the side of the road until he came to a stream. He dove in without hesitation, and swam slowly across. He felt something bite his foot and turned his head. Slaughterfish! He kicked it away and swam as fast as his arms and legs would allow, not stopping until he was safe on the shore. Ahead of him was a small cabin with a horse tied up outside of it. The window was lit up by a lantern. He walked over to it, and read the sign out front. Hunter's Rest: Stay for free!

A week later, Silkver stepped out of the cabin, hopped on the horse, satchel full of provisions, and rode north into the land of Skyrim.

Stealth character, but if detected, a pretty decent warrior. I can see myself carrying a light shield and a short sword around as backup in case things heat up. I'll use magic if it benefits one of those playstyles.

Thanks for writing this Marx. I can tell that you've put a lot of thought into your character, and I'm sure you'll find that you enter into Skyrim with an innate sense of where your Argonian has come from.
