CONTEST Design a new header for our site

  • As you all hopefully have realised the current site header (the banner across the top that says 'The Tamriel Vault' with two guys suited up in Power Armour) is temporary. It was put there just for the Fallout 4 Announcement and E3 hype.

We now need something more permanent. And this is where you guys come in. Today we are kicking off a contest to find a fresh, engaging and exciting header. It's time for you creative types to fire up Photoshop and get to work.

Needless to say there are a few restrictions and guidelines that you need to follow

    1. Size must be 955 pixels by 400 pixels.
    2. Entries must be saved in .JPG or .PNG format in RGB colour (72 dpi for web)
    3. Maximum file size of 500K so people with wind-up Internet like Ben don't kill us in our sleep
    4. Your design must be your original work, and able to used on our site without restriction.
    5. You must include visual elements from BOTH Elder Scrolls AND Fallout.
    6. You do not need to include the current strap line, but you may include a strap line if you choose.
    7. Your strap line is allowed to include a reference to how this site evolved from and in the successor to the Skyrim Blog

Read these guidelines carefully and stick to them, as entries that don't comply will be automatically disqualified.

There will be a Help Thread in the Art Group shortly for people to discuss this contest and get help from your friendly Art Hosts, Golden Fool, Alice and Curse Never Dying. (I will make a link to that post here once it is made)

Entries must be posted in the Art Group no later than Sunday July 5th. That gives you just over a week to get those creative juices flowing. The contestants (or shortlist of them, should there be a flood of entries) will be entered into a poll that following week, and the site members will choose the winner.

Now you may well ask about the prize for this event? And its really quite simple. The winning design will become our site header. It will across the top of The Tamriel Vault for the foreseeable future, as well as on our Facebook and Twitter page and other places around the web.

In short, YOUR design could become 'the face' of The Tamriel Vault in this exciting period in the run-up to Fallout 4 - and beyond!

So, what are you waiting for. Get creative!

Ben, yes that's exactly what happened. In fact I wasn't even aware of the difference. We had one seamless image uploaded to where the text part now is. But of course it wasn't full width as it now is

Prisoner, no - you're getting as confused ...  more

Nope. Most of the images we've used in the past have been from screenshots, fan art, concept art or things like that.

That's why I can offer PSD and PNG files for the banner. People can then use those in their Photoshop files to see how it looks like.
Merging site title with the background doesn't work because Ning does not accept nothing for banner. There has to ...  more

Why not ask people submit a layered PSD, with the text on a separate layer, which you could export as a JPG or PNG, then upload the whole thing as a background?

I feel we need a way to deal with what Mason said (through his alcohol haze lol) ...  more

Background size is 2347x990 (weird, I know).
I'll try to explain. Overlaying the text is done by Ning. There are two separate options in Ning editor - to upload a new header for the site (shown in Mason's screenshot on the previous page) and a new b...  more

Having said that I'm still not clear what we are asking for. I actually consider myself pretty familiar with Photoshop (more so Illustrator) but I'm still fumbling for the accuracy here...

I **think** we need the site background (Vazgen, can ...  more
